I am having my gallbladder taken out on March 29 because it's only functioning at 9%. I've heard you gain weight afterwards. Is this true? And how bad is the pain? Thanks!

most women lose their gall bladder because they have been eating too many fats and protiens, as in a low carb diet. Infection can also lead to loss of the gall bladder. But no where in the literature is there evidence that such a surgery causes weight gain. Weight gain is caused to high caloric intake and lack of adequate exercise and that's pretty much it.
So, if you are couch potato, and stuff your face all the time, you will gain weight, whether you have a gall bladder or not.
To heal rapidly, and feel better quickly, get out of the bed post-operatively as soon as you possible can and get moving.

Pain is not bad at all. I did not gain weight afterward. The few people I know who have had theirs taken out did not gain weight either.

I had mine out years ago and I lost weight.

You will not be able to eat fried/grease foods anymore. Trust me. It will make you so sick if you do. The gallbladder is what breaks down fat/grease/fried foods. When it's gone and you eat something you shouldn't, you'll have terrible pain and diarrhea. The pain depends on how they are going to take it out. Mine was out before they started doing laparoscopy. I have a big scar across my tummy and I was in the hospital for 9 days.
