I have noticed many are very critical of other people's beliefs or disbeliefs. Sort of stepping back and looking at this and wondering why they do this or bother to do this...is it insecurity with themselves???

just curious

There are many names for people like that. You may have noticed on this web site that many unbelievers obviously HATE believers while the responses of believers do not include filth and name calling or even disrespect. You may also notice that the things they accuse us of are actually the things THEY are guilty of themselves. Such is the twisted soul of the lost. They have the right to their lack of belief just as we have the right to our belief. Only you don't find Christians in court trying to make people believe as we do. Yet they say that we try to force our beliefs on them. The adage that if you say something long enough people will begin to believe it. That's what these complainers about Christianity are doing. A sensable person knows that they don't HAVE to look at a nativity scene or a Christian t-shirt or stay around when Christians are talking about their faith. But then these people are not "sensable". Just like most liberals, they believe that everything can be legislated so they run to court whining about what an offense Christmas is to them. But I don't see them refusing to take Christmas day off from work.
People who put down Christians because of what they believe do so for many reasons. Often the Holy Spirit is talking to them trying to nudge them into God's arms which makes them feel an unexplainable irritation and hate. Others are so lost that they're actually agents of the devil and are physically and spiritually sick with the powerful force that hatred is - and it is a spiritual force which binds those possessed by it in chains only a cry out to God can free them from. Once I felt it, I realized that I had never actually experienced true hatred. Intense dislike, yes but not this thing I was feeling. At one point, my exhusband had gone too far and I actually invisioned myself killing him. I WANTED to do it! And it scared me because what I felt inside of me was not a mere emotion - it was a very powerful THING and it made me feel sick. I went face down on the floor and cried out from the depths of my soul for God to remove it from me and He did even as I lay there in tears. I've never felt it since.
Another reason some people do it is because they're afraid. The word, "surrender" frightens them and turns them off. It did me until I did it, then I felt so free that I wondered why it took me so long to do it!. But handing over of one's will to a being you cannot see requires a tiny act of faith - "as small as a mustard seed" which is very tiny. These poor people, if they only knew what they are missing. God is like the wind. You can't see it but you know it's there and unfortunately some people react very violently to it. That's a result of what they've allowed inside themselves. They may think it, but they are not their own person. Sadly, they belong to the one who "prowls around like a lion seeking whom he may devour".
It is prophesied in the Bible that these things would happen and so they are with ever increasing vehemence. But no matter how deep their hatred or what they manage to get legislated, ultimately, they are the losers.

The simple answer is Fear! People are afraid of what they don't understand, or perceive as a form of manipulation. That fear can be expressed as anger, hate, ridicule, or insults.

From a Christian perspective, it's very important that we not take these responses personally!! We never know what has caused someone to feel this way about God.

Many were raised to believe the Lord is sadistic and cruel, others may have been abused by parents who called themselves "christians", or much worse. Thus, if we respond with anger, we are only helping to confirm what they've been taught for years, and causing deeper wounds.

I understand why unbelievers do what they do, but there is no excuse for Christians to post compulsively for the sole purpose of argueing the word of God, attacking others with religious sarcasm, and attempting to force truth upon someone. I'm sure the Lord shakes His head when he reads some of the messages posted in "His" name.

Everyone is not meant to minister to everyone!! There are some people who will never listen to you concerning God's Word, even if you were to walk on water, balancing the Bible on your head. While the next Saint will come along, and say just the right words at the right time. That's the Holy Spirit!

We are all called to teach and spread Good News, but each person is called to reach certain types of people based their spiritual gifts, backgrounds, temperments, and communication style. If we allow the Holy Spirit to direct our paths, the way He pleases, the Lord will lead us to those who are ready for truth, while providing us with the right words.

Note: Usually when you find a Christian who has something to say at all times, they are rarely speaking for the Lord.

Blessings, Miji

Yes, it is called being human. That is the nature of humanity as a whole; that is, if their logic does not agree with yours (generally speaking of course, not specifically attacking you) then they have no logic at all and must be wrong. And why would they hold such beliefs if there is no logic behind them?

While it sometimes can be insecurity, its not always and in fact very rarely is that the case. It has more to do actually with ego, "I have logic on my side and know what is best so you should do what I say." Added to that they don't ever bother to look at things from someone else's point of view and that is where the majority of disagreements come from.

There is a world of difference between slamming "others" and slamming "others' beliefs." One can think and write that a particular set of beliefs is illogical, etc., while still respecting the person espousing those beliefs.

People do it to help convince themselves of the truth of their own beliefs.

JEALOUS

Most folks who slam others are on the outside, looking in - wishing it were them in there having all the fun!
