What does the "~" symbol mean when used with electronic resistors?

It may mean "approximate", meaning it does not have to be the exact resistance stated but close to it.

I've never seen it on resistors, but I have seen it on other components, meaning: "AC".

if it's in a cirlce.. it generally means that it's an AC power supply.
