The anger could be about some specific thing that happened years earlier but strikes at random times without any particular trigger and the person is afraid of feeling a need to resort to yelling or violence.

It's all based on fear. The person is afraid of either losing something they have or afraid of not getting something they want. It's that simple. So when they get angry, they need to stop themselves and think about what they are afraid of. It could be a relationship? If things aren't going the way the person thinks it should and they get mad at every little thing, that person is really afraid the relationship is going to end.

At work I recommended a good friends son for working there. To my surprise this guy has lots of issues, his mom told me he used to take medication for his depression but stopped taking because of his attitude towards that issue. So at work I have to talk to him to calm down when he gets wound up, speak clearly and choose my words carefully or he would lash at me. He is a great guy sometimes we hang out go to the movies, but this is his only problem. When his 3 month work probation comes I know he wont get a permament job, I wonder how he will take it. In the end You and I arent this persons Momma, to be babysitting, talking helps for a while.
