I am getting married in July of this year, and was fortunate enough to purchase a really beautiful gown, at a really great price. I purchased the gown before the wedding date was actually set, but didn't have any qualms about it until now. The gown is a satin A-line gown, with long sheer sleeves, and beading detail on the sleeves, however, the back of the gown is open until almost the waist area. The ceremony is to be outdoors (if it doesn't rain), and the reception to be inside (under the air conditioning). Do you think that I will be too warm in this gown, and maybe purchase another, or do you think I will be able to survive the heat? I don't want to look inappropriate. Is their a rule about long sleeves in the summer? Previous brides, I'd appreciate your help! Thanks.

i wouldn't worry about it as long your comfortable, just because its in July you can't guarantee the weather. anyway if its sheer sleeves it probably wont make that much difference, but if your realy worried you have the sleeves removed by a dressmaker. hope it all goes well

Actually it seems like more of a winter gown. It would be appropriate for a Nov. Dec, Jan and Feb wedding. For an outdoor wedding, because it is satin and it has long sleeves, if it is a very hot day, you will be so hot and sweaty. So, my suggestion is to sell the gown on ebay as new and see what you can get. I don't know what you paid, but you may get half. Also a tip sell it in Sept so a girl that is getting married in the winter months will buy it. Then go out to David's Bridal or some other nice bridal store or on line and select a beautiful wedding gown from spring/summer collections. I can give you two sites that have georgeous gowns. Victoriasbridal.com and dessy.com. Also there are so many websites that sell wedding gowns. But definitely, get a gown that will look light, and airy and appropriate for the summer months, because you will be much happier. Best Wishes to you on your wedding.

Its all about you. Dont worry what other people think. I would not wear long sleeves personally but thats my style. If long sleeves fit you then go for it. A lot of brides get married in a strapless gown in the winter so why cant you wear sheer sleeves in the summer. You could always find another dress to change into later if you feel uncomfortable but go for it, wear the dress you want.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with buying another gown if I already had one that sounds as beautiful as the one you described. The fact that the sleeves are sheer and the back is out should help with your temperature, plus the fact that you're really not going to be outside for hours. Undoubtedly you loved this dress, so keep it and wear it!
Best wishes for a gorgeous wedding!

If the sleeves are sheer you shouldn't have any trouble, the gown sounds really pretty. If the back is open that far there shouldn't be any problem with being to warm. Congratulations!

I would stick with the one you've already got... It doesn't sound like it'll be too warm. And no, I don't think there are any rules about long sleeves in summer. Now that I think of it, my best friend's dress was long sleeved in mid August. Besides, there's a reason you got that dress in the first place. I'd go with it! :) Congratulations!

well it depends on where you will be having the wedding, in Mississippi in the 95+ degree temps we have in July I would say maybe skip it and get a new one, unless that is if you really love the dress, then survive it. It's sheer so it shouldn't be too warm....and as long as its a lightweight material like you say it is I think you should be fine as far as summer rules....it sounds very pretty tho, most of me says stick with it cuz dresses are SOOOO expensive and theirs no use in having 2 layin around!

properly i think of you ought to positioned on something which you're feeling appealing in. it is your day to be a princess and in case you do unlike what you would be wearing and would arise with the money for something slightly extra useful, then i might surely spend the added money and purchase yet another one....and who knows you are able to sell the "old" gown on ebay and get some money for it! you ought to no longer experience that your bridesmaids or every person for that remember will seem extra useful than you! you are the only every person would be staring at and you ought to experience optimistic and magnificent! properly in the adventure that your fiancee offered you the gown, possibly you are able to confer with him and tell him which you had an theory for yet another gown. i'm optimistic he will understand!

The dress sounds nice and if you love it then I would wear it. I might see a professional seamstress and ask her about removing the sleeves or making them short sleeves. That would be a lot cheaper and you don't have to worry about picking out another dress and making sure it was here in time.

No, it sounds absolutely beautiful! I think gowns with sleeves are really wonderful looking - and because they are sheer, you won't get hot. You totally won't look inappropriate, and no, there is no rule. I frankly think the FAD of strapless dresses is really silly. Yours sounds really classy.
Good luck and Congrats!
