I'm joining the army. I am female. I'm wondering if I should cut my hair it's about halfway down my back. If I cut it shorter how are we allowed to wear it? I'm not so much concrned with looks but more having it out of the way and being able to do it fast.

I am AF but our regulations are similar to Army's so... if your hair is long, I recommend just keeping it that length. They are not going to make you cut it... only branch that does that is the Navy (don't ask me why, as have no idea). To me, it's much easier to just pull it all back into a bun (esp. since mine is all one length, no bangs or anything to worry about) than to cut it and then spend time styling it or whatever... also, don't have to worry about it getting in face at all. If you do cut it, as was said, it cannot go past the bottom of your collar. You will learn to put it up quickly, don't worry. :)

A female may be able to answer better but, I have seen it braided and or pinned to stay above the collar.
Sometimes I am amazed at how much hair some females have when they let it down.
It may be easier on you to cut it shorter but it is not required if you are willing to put in the extra time and effort to keep it up.

Probablly 99% of women in the military tie their hair up in a bun when on duty.

my hair is down to my waist...i just have to put it up in a bun..trust me you WILL learn how to do it fast if you want to keep your hair long. I didn't have a problem with long hair in basic at all...its up to you thought...shorter might be easier but when it comes down to it you will get your hair up one way or another ;)

It has to be off the back of your collar. So if you go short it will have to be that short or you will have to have it in a bun or braid.

Don't worry, they'll cut ti for you to the regulation length. After basic you can let it grow back.

You will wear your hair in boot camp just the way they tell you. It will be shoryt. Too bad they don't do females as they do males and cut it all off. That would be a gas.

cut it, but dont cut it very short. have it long enough to be in a pony tail. so i geuss thats around your shoulders.
