"real women" in the media....?

Question

Why am i constantly reading about and seeing advertised all sorts of clothes, underwear and modelling jobs for "real women" (ie: size 16+)?
Are the slimmer women not real? Are they plastic? holograms? men...?

Im getting the idea but wouldnt it be better if they just said "average"?

The media is responding to the backlash of having glamorized "heroin chic" and are now unfortunately overcompensating. And ad companies have "discovered" a whole new market segment - people who buy things that actually fit them!
Edit: I say unfortunately because you're right, there are women who are naturally a smaller size and are still very "real". And to call someone average is decidedly UNflattering! Everyone wants to feel special!

I hate to assert it, yet professional wrestling is greater of a novelty sport that for the time of basic terms grabs human beings's interest in direction of the damaging stuff instead of the useful. Olympic wrestling is a real sport, in spite of the indisputable fact that it is not a "genuine" expert sport like basketball, soccer, tennis the place the athlete competes for money, titles and glory, that's in basic terms a school and olympic deal and after thatthere isn't something quite. Brock Lesnar has in basic terms gotten a narrative because of the fact he's a guy coming off the wacky international of wrestling and going into the wacky international of MMA, and he's garnering the attention of extreme people who humorous tale approximately professional wrestling, making professional wrestling greater of a humorous tale than what that's.

the average size of an American woman is a size 14. Most sample and model sizes are 0-2. The media has perpetuated this image of a skinny woman as the norm, and average size women are pushing back, and claiming the word "real" to make their point.

this is a great question, its becaause the media are obsessed with the size zero at the moment, god i did laugh at the louise redknapp farce on t.v last week, oh how shocking that she attempted to get down to a size zero, particularly as she was only 7 stone to begin with, all women are real women regardless of the size,(i have to eliminate vanessa feltz from that last statement, just because she irritates the t**ts off me lol)

Real - in terms of they don't feel the need to diet, or fit into or conform to what magazines/TV think they should. Rather they look like the majority of women not in the media.
