My son just turned 2 last month, but I'm trying to plan ahead for him. Is 3 too young for preschool. I'm convinced he's pretty much a genius, and would like him to start as early as possible. Any advice?

As a preschool teacher, we prefer to get them at 3. It is much easier for them to transition and separate from mom. They get 2 years in preschool, gaining experience being at school and being exposed to other children before moving on to kindergarten. Consider putting him in a part-time program. He can start 3 days a week, no more than 3 hours per day. When he turns 4 he can go 4 days a week (no more than 3 hours) and at 5, 5 days a week ( 3 hours). Many Montessori programs offer this option and are great schools for gifted children. Good luck!

Three and four are the standard ages for preschool. But now, there's also Mother's Day Out programs throughout the U.S. that are not just child care places. Many of the mother's day out programs start as young as 6 months! They provide a place for your toddler to learn and interact socially with other kids. If you want to enhance your child's abilities, I would check these out in your area. Most churches have mother's day out programs. Sneak in for a visit and ask to see the curriculum. Now is the time many of these places are registering for the Fall. Good luck to you and your son!

3 is a great age! Go ahead and start checking out preschools in your area. Preschool is a great place for them to learn awesome socialization skills to go along with his "genius" status! ;-)

My daughter didn't start until she was 4 but I plan on putting my son in next year when he is 3. I think that getting structured school time and having interactions with other kids is important for them.

Of course.....every one of our kids are geniuses!! :)

Your best bet would be to check with a couple preschools you would like him to go to. See what their requirements are. For example, they may require your child to be fully potty-trained before attending. You may also want to check to see if there is a waiting list, when enrollment begins, pay schedule, etc. It's great you are starting now so you have time to get all your ducks in a row.
Good Luck!

Three is a good age to start your child in pre-school.....It will make a world of difference in the ability to interact with other children, how to share, take turns.....and will give him a jump start on his numbers and alphabet, shapes and colors etc.....
In to days society children need all the early education they can get....Scout around and investigate your area pre-schools. Find the one that fits yours and your childs needs the best......It will be worth the effort.

3 years is pretty much the average. I waited too late with my son (he was 3 months from being 4). Just make sure your little Einstein is potty trained...a lot of place make it a requirement.

I would suggest going to the pre-school that you want him to go to and ask them what age they recommend on starting him at? Some schools like them to be potty trained fully, some like them to be a certain age etc. I would just go to the school or call them and ask that question. Then go from there.

Good Luck
