music is always important. I like to hold a bbq in my back yard and then move everyone to the front yard to watch a movie on the gargage door. Its really cool and you can serve popcorn and cherry coke. But if your not interested in that remember to have citronela candles (to ward off bugs) have games for the kids. Have fun.

*Music*, Drinks, Patio, Outdoor Furniture, Charcoal, Lighter Fluid, and a Lighter, Massive Grilling Utensils... make sure you have all the right marinades for the meat too.
If it's at night, citronella candles or tiki torches, bug repellent, etc...

Cuterly and plates - an easy way to go is plastic or paper plates - less cleanup.
Places for everyone to sit
Drinks - both non-acholic and acholic. Beer is always good for BBQ
Music
Umbrellas to block the sun
Citronella candles for bugs
Games and activities like badminton, frisbee, or a football.

Good home made cooking, like potato salad, mashed potatoes, ranch stile beans, corn on the cob. The most important thing for drinks is good ole ice tea. Also people,music,games,ect.

A good variety of drinks (alcohol and non-alcohol) some good music, and I always thought lawn games were kind of fun, too. If its already mosquito season where you are, some citronella candles would also be good.

Drinks (soda, water, alcohol), appertizers, music, bug spray (if its in the middle of the summer so your guests don't get bitten), Candles (for mood lighting if its going to last till the evening).
