I don't think it's a beverage, I think it's a blood ritual that leaves you susceptible to disease and blood contamination.
Say you have an amazingly close friend you would do anything for and so to show this take a blood pact. You both put a small cut in your hand so it bleeds a little and then shake hands, so you swap a little blood.
A blood-borne disease is one that can be spread by contamination by blood.
The most common examples are HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C.
