Not just judging or criticizing ourselves but our own Nation. We find it insulting when a person from a different country or another nation criticizes us, yet we find the need to criticize them without them getting mad.

Many Americans say that other countries don't have values or morals. These same people get into their cars, drive to meet their mistresses while the 2nd wife is at home taking care of the kids. Yet if you point out that that's not good values or morals they get mad.

I agree!!! I think it's our misguided need to feel superior to other people of the world. We especially hate when people criticize the actions of our president (who we all know must have a transplanted donkey brain in his head). It is ridiculous!!

I think sometimes we can be defensive because other countries THINK they know everything there is to know about us, and, let's face it, we don't know a whole lot about them. All they know about us, though, it's what's portrayed in the media so it's definitely a skewed view.

I lived in Ireland for two years, and after watching "Bowling for Columbine" one of my Irish friends was convinced that we all own guns and are a bunch of gun-crazy freaks or something. I had a LONG conversation with her to try to convince her that it wasn't true.

At this point in time, we are the most influential country in the world. I was in Ireland at the time of the last Presidential election and everybody always wanted to know what I thought about Bush.

I guess we are sort of the equivalent of a Britney Spears or Tom Cruise: we're high profile so everybody thinks they need to know everything about us, and they often get it wrong.

If that makes any sense...

Quite the contrary, I think this country tends to be self-critical -- at least in the media -- much more so than most countries. We worry about whether we're doing the right thing (as a country) and if other countries like us -- you'd think we as a country were in junior high.

I think most Americans have a tendency to believe that, because we are one of the most powerful countries in the world, that we are more intelligent than they are. Therefore, how could we be wrong in our actions.Even the wake-up call of 9/11 left most of America wanting revenge when we should have been analyzing why most of the world appears to hate us so mush.

I would fight to the death for someones right to disagree with me
I will voice my own opinions though
I am NOT in agreement with the feds on many issues and voice my opposition and try to make change in this country if we leave it up to the feds then they will continue to mess up, badly of late
Its human nature to protect the tribe from outside influence and attacks so people seem unwilling sometimes to listen to someone who disagrees with there tribes leadership or anyone putting down someone in there tribe even though they know there wrong.its just a human thing.

You are mixing oranges and apples. Morals are taught. If you grow up thinking it is Allah's will for YOU to kill your enemies, and that your enemies are people who don't believe as you do. Then you will think it is fine to kill them. Someone sneaking around to have an affair knows they are doing wrong, and do it anyway.
In case you don't know. America is made up from people from all countries and all religions. We are judged everyday!
