They say that nicotine is The most addictive drug. And cigarettes are so readily available. Some options to help one quit are Nicotine Anonymous (based on 12-step self help group guidelines of Alcoholics Anonymous/AA), attending a smoking cessation program typically offered thru the local hospital which may be partially (or totally?) covered by one's health insurance and includes behavioral modification strategies such as keeping a journal and coping strategies and perhaps some group counseling, and then with the doctor's ok, there are those nicotine 'replacement' products that are supposed to help such as nicotine gum, patch. The person would need to find other ways to deal with stress, ways to cope and eat healthier and increase one's physical activity (with dr's ok :) Good luck to you and how wonderful that you are really looking after your health and quality of life!

social smoking leads to addiction also, please dont get addicted to nicotine it is harder to break than hard drugs, try hanging with ppl who dont smoke or tell your friends that right now you can take it or leave it and dont want to become addicted, im sure they will understand, if they are truly friends than they wouldnt want you to smoke. ppl who are addicted dont want others to go thru the same addiction.
