I have been single for 3 weeks now and i miss my ex sooo much, i even sent him an email as his number has changed, but i got no reply.
SO what you have to ask yourself incase you give yourself hope in him replying, do you think he wants you to contact him? is it a good idea? and after all if he thought anything of you i guess he would have tried to find a way to contact you.
getting back to the question you asked, i would just call him, thats if you still have his number.
but i would not contact him and EX is an EX for a reason.
and if you get no where with him it could end up making you upset, is it worth putting yourself through that as he might have changed and moved on, and it looks like he as toherwise he would have contacted you.

call on b/days, holidays, pump into him and have a little chat about how are things....etc.
the best way is to pick up the phone and say you missed them and want to talk to them.

email is subtle, trying seeing if he has a myspace page and adding him. then casually bring p conversation.
