Yes there is power in prayer. It is called the Power of the Placebo affect.
As for scientific studies on prayer, please check the Templeton Foundation. They commissioned a study on prayer. The results were unremarkable - basically, there was no difference in healing time between open heart surgery patients who received prayers and those that did not. The only interesting fact was that they found that the control group that WAS told they would be prayed for had a HIGHER incidence of complications due to surgery... This further demonstrated the power of the placebo affect - being told that they were going into surgery AND being prayed for made those few patients nervous, hence they had complications.

I have many experiences were the power of prayer has helped my life. Some of those experiences are very sacred to me; others are more mundane, like being able to find a lost contact lens after saying a prayer and having a "feeling" to go look somewhere very illogical, yet finding it.
The power of prayer exists. I have experienced it.

There was a double blind study and it included as an additional group, those who were prayed for and were told about it. They fared the worst of any group. There was no "power of prayer" indicated in the study.

Actually many studies have been done.
In one, they discovered that believers in hospital who were told that someone was praying for them, did worse than those who weren't told. Something to do with leaving everything in god's hands, and not taking personal responsibility for their own well being.
So, if someone is praying for you, don't just relax and expect that you will be fine. Fight for your life anyway. god expects that from you. What is said? god helps those who help themselves? Yeah, that's it.

i beleive it's kinda like a self-fulfilling prophecy, you have to believe in it. similar to how witches perform "magick". and it won't create a 'miracle', but to calm you down would be within its power (as it/you has the ability to change your attitude)

Jesus said to cast all your cares on Him for He cares for you.
Meditate on truth, love, positive, etc... and Gods peace.
Jesus said the the peace he gives is different than the peace the world has to offer.

It really depends on two things. One - If you are praying to God through His Son Jesus Christ, and Two - If you have accepted Christ as your Savior. If you don't pray through Jesus' name, you are praying to nothing, The only God is the one who has Jesus Christ as His one and only Son.
