Did they mistreat you or abuse you?

I was abused in one. The nurses beat the living hell out of me.

Once. It was a mistake (I am sure everyone says that, but in my case it really was, the ER had no idea what to do with me, so they shipped me out to a psych hospital).
It was awful. I was locked in a ward with a man who was paranoid and got mad when I did not understand his one handed communication, and he was sure I was locking him in a room of toxic waste. The nurses drugged me with who knows what, and left me alone. My purse was taken by the police, including my phone, so I had no phone numbers, no clothes, for 3 days. A lot happened. I had a panic attack, and instead of helping a nurse dragged me back to my room by my pants, pushed me on my bed, and said that behavior will not get me the meds I needed. The meds I was prescribed.
If the ER had given me a choice I would have voluntarily gone to a Psych hospital in another city, one I had voluntarily gone before, one I trusted (pretty much, at least they respect you there). But they gave me no choice. I did not even come in for a suicide attempt. It was a screwed up situation. And they say they did it for an "evaluation" when that DAY I had an appointment with my (then) Psycologist. Why not just escort me there, then have him decide?
Oh well, it was last year, and I am trying to deal and put it behind me. At least I was not beat. Mainly ignored, when nurses were not coming into my room when I was naked (taking a shower).

I was told I was being taken to the local hosp for "tests" and discovered I was admitted to the mental health wing. It was very traumatic. I wasn't physically abused but I wasn't there under my own power, they gave me drugs that turned out to be the wrong ones, and I wasn't at all ready to let the doctors dig around inside my psyche.
I did realise that while I had problems, I wasn't as nutty as some of the other people there.
It was very hard to forgive my parents, I was only 17 and most of the people in "the wing" were older adults.

Twice in one week actually... Back in the 80's

Apparently, I got away with it the first time and they let me go home after hours of evaluation. Tee hee...

I'm smarter than most doctors and even back then I could be rather manipulative and convincing when I wanted to be, therefore, I can be rather dangerous...

And no they didn't... They were very nice to me both times. Probably to save face, embarrassment and a potential law suit.

But that is another place and time... A long, LONG... time ago and a galaxy far far away...

Oh and by the way... The let me out again a few days after that. STAFF CHANGES!

Damn I'm good!

I would love to hear your story. Why did they beat the hell out of you. Your story sounds wonderfully interesting. No, I have never been commited to a mental hospital.
