Some people feel that testing God is a mistake. I don't understand this. I heard a speaker once say that she tested God when her life was in danger. A little voice told her to test God, and she said ' if you don't let these people find me, I will know you exist'. I related this to my cousin, and I knew by the look on her face she did not approve. She is not the only person that has expressed a dislike in testing God. Why is that?

It is no surprise to find that in the bible. I would do the same sort of thing if I was to make a bottle of snake oil. If it is not tested then it may not be found out to be false.

Well, once, i was surprised to be told by the pastor in chuch one sunday morning that it is not very good to test God and it doesnt make God very happy. He took the example of the story of the seepskin and the dew....cant remember exactly.

Long story short, we should not need to say to God " Do this and this and i will believe in u" That is like saying to someone " do this and this and ill be your best friend". Its not right.

Well, there is testing and there is testing.

There's the testing that Satan wanted Jesus to do... throw himself off a cliff to see if Jehovah's angels would really catch him". In the account @ Matthew 4 shows Jesus said to Satan that "you must not put Jehovah your God to the test." That's wrong.

However, it is my personal opinion that what your friend did was not testing God. She didn't PUT herself in that position for the express purpose of seeing whether God was real. Her life was already in danger and she prayed that God reveal his existence to her. It's a far different situation.

Jesus said not to test God. I try not to test God. I might not like the answer I get if I did test Him.

Scripture is clear:

Do not put the Lord your God to the test......

It is our job however to test the spirits to see if they are of God.

I gave God a thorough test of existence. He failed.

I certainly do, and find the concept wanting. But testing is obviously contrary to faith; if you have faith in something, you need not (indeed, must not) test it. But faith is the ultimate evil: it is the refusal to think, and I consider that to be the worst thing that one might do.
