"So why bother converting anyone?"
Given the history of religion, that's an excellent question. Particularly when you look at the actions of the early Christian church in western Europe. They did everything and anything to convert the pagan population, including adopting their festivals and deliberately changing them to reflect Christian ideas and religious practice. Why did they do it?
Well, as my PR father used to say, "There is a good reason and the real reason."
The good reason would be to save the souls of those poor miserable pagans living the good life in harmony with the land. Those early Christians were, to their way thinking, on a mission from god.
The real reason, when you look at the history of the church, was power and control. If that were not the case, why did the early Catholic Church have an army and a hit squad? How "turn the other cheek" is that?

I haven't tried my hand at converting anyone. But i know ppl who have and to them it's like their life's mission.
if i ever tried to convert others' i'd do it so that they too can have the blessings of blving in God. but then nothing happens without the will of God, so if He didn't want it the conversion won't happen.
He allows unbelievers cuz He knows that they might convert if He guides them and they're a test for the believers. How we deal with them, how we react to them, etc.

I don't try to convert. I'm not arrogant enough to claim that what I believe in is correct to begin with. I just know it is correct for me. Besides, I don't like crowds... never enjoyed the church setting... so I sure as hell don't want a bunch of people converting to my beliefs. Then I'd have to listen to their BS All the Friggin Time! =)

Who told you God wishes non-believers to exist?
You are right we have our own free will to choose but God did send messengers to show us the right path; then why wouldn't you believe? Don't assume lowly of our existence in this world because God has plans for you and me. Take heed and do the right, for God has shown us the right. You are responsible for your own existence and during judgement day.

I think it's not only about religion!, its just a thing that comes with being human.
Right now you're asking me why am I trying to convert people, and giving me reasons why i shouldn't. Right there you're trying to convince me to do, or stop doing something, that is a persuasive opinion, as human beings we love!!! to be right, and we always try to "share" that "truth" with others, we're so sure that we're correct that we almost get mad [or we get mad] if someone doesn't see things like we do, because in your mind seems to be so right, so perfect.....so....TRUE!, so why don't you see it?...jaja, well, people don't really think alike, that is exactly why we have so many religions, but of course, there is always someone who would try to make you think what they think! :) ...and it's ok, because that is part of our nature, and has nothing to do with religion, its just the desire to share knowlodgment !

I believe that God makes people the way that they are supposed to be. If they are meant to be non believers then that is how they are supposed to be. If they convert then that is part of the plan as well. I just leave people alone.

I am not out on a converting mission. Period. If someone comes to me and asks me a question, I will answer it, but I'm not about to go getting all up in somebody's business trying to push my beliefs on them.
My beliefs are just that, MY beliefs. To each their own.

I don't, just as much as I wish atheists would stop trying to convert me.
Believe however, and in whoever you want, even if it is no one.
there is more to people than there religion or lack there of
For instance, what music do you like, what foods?
I'm sure inside there we would have similarities,
So why fight over petty beliefs. I don't "convet" anyone. And I don't even try, what's the point,
Do unto other's
