A couple of years ago I visited The Big Island. We stayed in a cabin on a fruit plantation in Hilo, near Pahoa. In that vicinity we snorkeled off a grouping of lava flows which at high tide captured large fish, sea turtles and eels. That location was close to homes and I remember we parked the car on the street. There was a street sign designating the area as an ecological project. I'm going back this summer. Can someone remind me how to get there?

I don't have the answer, but, go to the bookstore and look for Big Island Revealed by Wizard Publications. It may very well have the name of the place and directions to get to it. The Revealed books have a lot of this kind of hints about out of the way places that only locals know about in them.

Actually, I can't tell you where that spot is, but amazingly enough I will be staying at that same fruit plantation near Pahoa in a few weeks. Isle of View, right?
