To hear things like that really disgust me! I can't even imagine how that baby must have felt alone and crying in that crib while she was off having fun with friends i think she should have 20 years to life for something so horrible to and innocent soul!

This is going to sound cruel but I am going to say it anyway. People like her, should be sterilized because she is not mentally capable (from what I see here) to have a child. Her friends, should also be charged with something because they should have asked "hey, where's the baby? Who's watching him/her?" They should have looked out for that poor child's well being! I know that when I left my children with other people over night I called at least two or three times a day asking about how they were doing. So, the friends should have thought that something was weird.

Even just hearing that a person did that is making me cry. That poor child!

No, this is not a long enough punishment! A man can get up to ten years just for looking at a child the wrong way or saying something dirty to a minor but you'll let a mother who leaves her child alone for three days get away with just two years? Was that judge smoking something? LOL--sometimes I cannot believe what the world is coming to. I certainly hope this child was taken away from her mother permanently. That's just sickening!

Personally I don't. How can any mother leave their baby??? There was 2 stories like that here in Texas. One was a father moved and left his 1 year old in a crib for like 3 days. Another really shocked me, A father left his 1 year old in a shopping cart outside. He then called the store to see if he left his child. CPS was called and released the baby to him.

She should get longer time but tell me do you think that the following is right at all? (this is why some people need to be on birth control)

CLEVELAND -- A Cleveland judge decided that mercy was more important than punishment in the case of a teenage mother who buried her newborn baby.

Judge John Gallagher had given the case a great deal of consideration. He was well aware of the grim details.

The Euclid teenager was a sophomore in high school when she gave birth in her bathroom.

"She said it didn't cry and she poked at it and she felt the baby was dead," David Boresz of the Euclid Police said.

The girl told Euclid detectives that she panicked and buried the baby's tiny body in the back yard.

Pediatrician and child advocate Dr. Lolita McDavid says panic is not unordinary.

"Adult women who get pregnant go into denial if it's not planned," McDavid said.

Gallagher was also well aware of the Audrey Iacona case in Medina.

Audrey was 17 when she gave birth to a three-pound baby boy in the basement of her parents home. She was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, child endangering and abuse of a corpse.

Iacona spent 20 months behind bars, part of an eight year prison term.

But unlike what happened in Medina, the judge in this case thought that mercy and rehabilitation were more important than punishment.

“You'll do 25 hours of community service and pay back to the community what you have taken from the community,” Gallagher said to the girl.

County prosecutors believe the judge went easy only because there was no official ruling of homicide.

“Well, it affected the case because in that we don't know whether the baby was born dead or alive, so it became impossible for the coroner to rule that this was a homicide,” Assistant Prosecutor Carmen Naso said.

In addition to the 25 hours of community service, the judge also said he wants the probation department to make sure the teenager is getting counseling on a regular basis.

Morally, I don't think there is a punishment that fits that horrendous crime. When you think of it in terms of what is acceptable, I think two years gets the point across, but I pray to God she does not have custody of this child anymore. Ultimately, that is the worst punishment she could face and the best outcome for the child. The child is not better served for her being in prison forever. The child is better served with a loving home. So no, I don't want to waste my tax dollars on her being in prison for endless amount of years, however a part of me thinks she deserves it.

Of course it's not enough the child could've died and at 22 she should know better. Shame on her for having that child sent away to the already depressing foster care system, I'm assuming they wouldn't let her keep the child. I think they should've charged her with attempted murder. But I'm not going to get all righteous i'm really just going to pretend she was a complete idiot and not some cruel animal who has no regard for a human life, esp once she helped create.

Yeah, but I also think that the baby should be taken away from her. No innocent child should be faced to live with a neglectent mother. Especially if it was just to see friends.
