Awww... congratulations. If she already owns a couple of rings, take it without her knowledge. The jewelry store will be able to put a graduated rod in it that shows what size it is for the engagement ring. Then put it back quietly. It's a little sneaky, but it's for a good cause. Otherwise, guess and then get it sized later. That's what normally happens. Good luck!

Normally you will find that your girlfriend leaves a ring on her nightstand or in the bathroom. Try to be aware if the ring that she left there is in the correct finger, then just take it. Try it on and remember very well how it fits and, as a backup, draw it's shape en a piece of paper and take it to the jewelry.
In general they can find out the ring's size. Do not let her by any circumstance suspect that the ring is missing, if you're asked about it, play fool for a while don't find it, she will notice.
To put pack the ring just leave it in a place that she may have overlooked. Good luck! may you have a very nice engagement.

All good answers but, that is a problem that every jeweler in the universe handles every day. You buy the ring you want her to have and then, after she says yes, you bring it back to the jeweler and have it sized to fit her finger exactly. Without her finger in the store to measure exactly they can only size it according to standard ring sizes and most of us fall in between those sizes.
Also, don't take a ring from her jewelry box, it is in that box for a reason and the reason may be that it doesn't fit well. Once you have a ring sized, it's yours, even if she says no.
congrats!

Go to the mall on an outing. Step into Spencer's gifts or any shop that sells mood rings. Look around have fun. Then find the mood rings. Try them on for fun and make a note of which one fits her. When you go to the jeweler, bring the ring or tell them what size it was. Find a ring that comes close, go slightly bigger instead of slightly smaller (you can have it sized perfectly after she says yes). She'll never guess what you're up to.
Congratulations!

I still don't know my ring size, despite having the ring on my finger! Go for a bigger size as it is much easier to make it smaller, adn avoids any awkward stuck moments.
It might be fun to buy her a cheap ring from Claire's or somewhere for a proposal and then reassure her you can go together to pick- that way you get the surprise and a ring shopping trip together is pretty special- I got to choose my ring mostly cos my fiance was too shy to go in by himself, but my friend is well jealous that she didn't get that opportunity!!!

Find a ring that fits them and get its size so that the ring you buy will fit, but it's better to get a ring slightly too big, it can always be re sized by the jeweller

You'll have to take a guess. Have a good look at her hands and try and see if any of your friends/family have similar sized hands. You can then use their ring size to do a best guess.
Most rings will need adjusting anyway - just make sure you go larger rather than smaller so can at least get it onto her finger.

Slip one of her rings onto one of your own fingers. Remember how far the ring goes down on your finger and have them make the engagement ring that size.

Talk to the jewelry store about it. They should run into this kind of problem all the time. They can probably guess fairly well what her size is just by giving them her height and weight.
Then, have it sized exactly afterwards.
Don't take a ring from her jewelry box; it probably goes on the wrong finger anyway!
