It's most likely areas where the fleas were biting him. The bites will scab over after a while from fleas biting their skin. If your cat will tolerate a bath, that might be a good idea. If you do bathe your cat you can use a mild shampoo on him. Rinse him off real well to make sure all of the soap is gone. Towel dry him and let him groom himself after wards. If you are still in doubt, contact your vet for advice. I hope this helps!

As long as your kitty doesn't go outside you shouldn't need flea products. It is really great that you keep him in the house and not let him run lose. Some of the flea stuff is strong and may cause sores. If he has scabs and they are healing just make sure they stay clean. Could wash off his neck with a wash cloth with a little soapy warm water on it. Dry it and rub on a topical ointment as he can't reach his neck to lick off the stuff. Make sure that ya never use more than one flea product on your pet at the same time. Sometimes flea collars also cause irritation. Take care of your old guy. I had a calico that lived to be l9 years old. She was healthy and enjoyed her life. They give so much happiness don't they.

Hi, My male cat is also a house cat, and our cat Charlie is allergic to the spot on for flea's. He gets little sores on the back of his neck but he has to have the treatment because he is allergic to flea bites.

I have a very old male cat also, and he has sores around his neck and head too. I know he doesn't have fleas so it's probably not that. I do have a couple other cats that he plays with occasionally. I think the sores are from playing with the other cats. They play really aggresivelly together and I'm sure that gives him the sores.

Check to see if the spot on is out of date. The chemical composition can change with time. I saw a cat on animal hospital once with sore skin from an out of date flea treatment.

Call the vets for a check anyway.

I also have an indoor cat, a lilac-point Siamese. He has the occasional flea (probably brought home from one of my two Yorkies!) but I have always been rather dubious about using 'Spot On' .

My Siamese has also suffered the odd bout of skin trouble. He has had sore patches on the abdominal area and also his inner thighs. He had all the tests but nothing conclusive was found.

Ask your vet about Fuciderm Carbomer Gel. This does the trick every time, gets rid of all sores, and promotes new coat growth. Fuciderm is a prescription-only application and costs the staggering sum of £17 for a small tube ... but it's worth it, believe me! Give it a try and I wish your cat well.

spot on caused the same to both my cat and my dogs so i decided the flea drops from the vets was well worth the money besides spot on is crap and doesnt really work. most vets nowadays will sell you the drops without having to register with them . mine have a free clinic and i can buy worming tablets too as long as i take them once a year. This doesnt cost just the treatment. Good luck in finding a vet.

Sometimes it takes a while for the flea bites to heal. When they get old, they need additional vitamins, or a good quality cat food specifically for senior cats that includes all the vitamins they need.

It could poss be the treatment that you are using.. i went to the vet for mine and they were both fine ( i have 2 cats ) BTW cats can catch fleas even tho they are house cats.. remember we have access to the out doors and can bring them in to the house on our clothing..!
