It was an atheist who invented God.

Of course Atheists are for real. So are Agnostics. This is their belief system just as Christianity, Judaism, Catholic, Muslim, ect. They have the same right as anyone does to think and believe any way they see fit. Who really knows what we are here for, I believe in a Supreme Being, but I could be totally wrong, but I can't see it hurting anyone. Neither do I find Atheists or Agnostics or any other religion, I think everyone has a right to think what they will. Why is this so hard for everyone to understand? Don't try to tell other's how to live their lives unless you are ready to die with them when there time runs out.

I am for real, it's no fad I am 28 and have felt this way for as long as I can remember. It did not begin with rebellion either, my mom did not attend church but she did believe in God, my Aunt is very Catholic and I think she is one of the greatest people I know, my best friend of 16 years is Mormon and I respect her faith as well. it just never made any sense to me.

Most Buddhists are atheist (given they hold no belief in a Deity), therefore this "fad" must have been going on for about 2500 years.

I'm in my fifties, I really don't think I'm rebelling against my parents, or anyone else for that matter.

The more important question, is why people accept something, so important in their lives, without even the slightest unambiguous evidence to support it.

My parents are about as secular as they come, and in my country religion is not such a big part of society, and no one regards atheism a "rebellion". In fact such an idea would seem outright ridiculous. If it it different in your society, you have my sympathy.

Gosh, Peanut. I'm 36, married (for over 16 years) with three kids. I work full time, pay my taxes. Why would I be rebelling against my parents and society at this point in the game?

Think, ok?

Atheism is a philosophy. It is the presence of a belief in the empirical realm and should not be defined by what it is not. Nothing should be. (irony intended)

Ironically, much of which was created by empiricists is considered blessings from God. Go figure.

We are real. You are in the Matrix.

And Steve N, I'm probably old enough to be your father. Youthful rebellion indeed, you whippersnapper.
