Don't be afraid to go into a Liquor store and ask for assistance. Explain what you like in a wine, Red / white, dry, sweet. If you know what you're goign to be eating or what type of food you might like to pair it with that would help, and let them know how much you want to spend on a bottle.

Good wines don't have to cost an arm and half a leg! There are several for under 15 dollars that work well. Take a look at some good labels, such as Turning Leaf, Sutter Home, Rodney Strong and so on and you will find very good Merlot's, Pinot Grigio's, and Sangeovese. Trader Joes' sell Charles Shaw wines that are $1.99 per bottle and taste amazingly good! We call it "2 Buck Chuck".

I used to work at a wine store and the specialists told me that it didnt make sense to spend more than 20-30 bucks on a wine unless there is a specific request. It depends on the type that you like. Even a yellow tale which runs like 4 bucks is good for the price.

Good wine dose not have to burn a hole anywhere. Now it sounds like you are new to wine and that it OK. You could ask people what their favorite in expensive wine are or my advice is to start drinking and getting to know wines. Buy a bottle drink it see if you like it repeat.

I just bought a bottle of some kind of red wine called Red Knot. Not sure but I think it was a Cabernet?? Anyway, it was decent but only like $8 a bottle.

And sometimes I'll get a $6 bottle of reisling and it's really refreshing and good.

Of course I don't know much about wine...

Berringer, Sutter Home are great wines and not pricey.
Keep the bootles laid down on there sides to keep the cork moist which keeps it from breaking after opening wine let it breathe 10-20 min
Better yet try a winery lets you taste and see what you really prefer

I agree with Anthony the Carlo Ross is great and inexpensive. If you a full flavored red that you could pull up and drink next to a fire place or on hot summer night by the pool. Go with Davinci Chianti. goes around 20 bucks at your local liquor store.

Ernest Gallo is the best wine for your money. Two Buck Chuck at Trader Joe's is also a great wine.

We found a inexpensive red table wine (if your a wine snob you will not like it) named Piasano by Carlo Rossi. It tastes good, dispite its inexpensive cost.
