are they too much? I am about to apply for ITV's Britain's Best Dish after seeing an ad. I make a nice pavlova and they are holding X-Factor style auditions around the country. what do you think?

You should go for it!
There are some cooking shows which are very good (Master Chef, Hell's Kitchen, Best British Menu, Cooking with Julia Child, Good Eats [US]). The demonstrators or contestants display intelligence, innovation, passion and creativity. Any show where you feel comfortable being yourself, sharing something from your personal history like a family-favourite recipe is a good show.
There are other shows that have presenters who are patently up their own arses in the kitchen that I can't stand! The ones where they surround themselves with stuffy, self-important chefs and wine "experts" who wouldn't know, and more importantly appreciate, a good mac-n-cheese if it belted them across the face!
If you like the format of the show. If you feel you would be comfortable giving it a go, then I look forward to seeing you - as I don't have a good recipe for pavlova, it could only improve me to learn from you.

Personally I get a little tired of them, however if you are into cooking you probably enjoy them. Go for it! I love pavlova its gorgeous. GOOD LUCK!!! I hope you win.

If you ever get to meet that Ainsley Harriet from Ready Steady Cook, ask him if he knows any words other than "Fantastic" or "Fabulous" to describe something he thinks is just about fair, because if he does, he never uses them ! ! !
