No, I don't believe most men would be happier in an open relationship. The problem with most men is that they don't like the idea of their wives/girlfriends being with other men. We are very jealous and selfish creatures, just as I'm sure women are. But some men seem to have a double standard. They will have relationships with other women without concern, but be furious and unforgiving if they find their wives/girlfriends cheating. That is woefully wrong.
I am single, and I believe wholeheartedly in monogamy. If I can't have a deep, intimate relationship with the woman I'm with, then she's not my wife/girlfriend. But both of us will agree on that; I won't have her thinking she's my significant other if she's only a friend.
That said, if I wanted an open relationship, I'd want her to know about it. I guess we'd be swingers then (something that does spark a little interest in me), and I'd allow her to be with who she wants. But we have to communicate that and be honest with each other about that kind of relationship. Communication is the key; and unfortunately, a lot of us men have poor communication skills.

I would hate an open relationship. I need to "feel" something in order for there to be an intimate sexual relationship. I dont think I could get used to the jumping around from bed to bed. If my wife wanted to have sex with others I would let her as long as I could watch. Thankfully its not something she has expressed an interest in.

In my opinion, there shouldn't be OPEN RELATIONSHIPS.
An open relationship is a term that shouldn't exist.
It's a trap. Commitment is commitment and if you don't commit to a relationship you don't have a relationship, as well as to a job or a behaviour or belief.
