Since it is impossible to accurately translate exact meaning from one language to another, all legal issues must be decided in only one language. In the United States, that language should be American English, and use of that language must be made official for legal reasons or trouble will ensue.
Legal matters must be decided using legal definitions. Those definitions must be the basis of the legal language of the United States of America.
For all other purposes, an official llegal language is unnecessary.
Have fun speaking any language you wish, but if you need to discuss legal matters, you better use the legal and official language, or hire an attorney who can.

English needs to be the official language of the US. A common language is the number one factor in binding a society together. A shared language promotes shared values and a cohesive society.

It would be a wonderful thing if there was one and only one language. The most widely used language in the world is English. It's obviously not hard to learn when you see people coming from India, Peru, Italy, China and pretty much everywhere else and they know the English language. However, you can take a look at a Mexican who has been here for 10 years and can't speak a lick of English.
Why not just start printing everything in Hebrew and make the American citizens have to learn that too? I don't think so.

I just know I traveled about 40 miles from my house and got lost because of major road work. We stopped in a town at a gas station to get directions. No one spoke English. Went to the Walgreens.....no English. Stopped at a burger joint......no English. Finally found a state road crew and got out. I'm not in Mexico. Spain, South America ..... I'm a suburb of Chicago. Now either they are making no attempt or they can and refuse to help a gringo....either way.....I shouldn't need a translator in my own country. They didn't even TRY and help. It was made clear gringos were not welcome or wanted. I don't speak Spanish but I ATLEAST make the attempt to find someone who can help anyone who doesn't speak English...Spanish, Polish, Arabic, whatever. This division isn't an exercise in rights.....it's a club to cause division and a spin on racism.

We are a country under attack by liberals and illegal immigrants. People like Hilary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and many many others need to be purged from our political system because they are bringing it down.
In time, there will be no USA, at least not the great USA we are used to. There has never been a great and powerful country that was multicultural and had numerous languages.
We should cease to pay income taxes until the existing laws on the books are enforced. We have good immigration laws now, they are just not enforced. There should be punishment for any company that hires an illegal immigrant. That alone would fix out immigration problem.
Large parts of the country already speak Spanish. Miami, southern Los Angeles to just name a few. There are Hispanics literally everywhere now. Our immigration laws are supposed to provide for a blend of other cultures, not allow one group to dominate as the Hispanics are being allowed. It has to stop.
Any immigrant that will not learn English is clearly saying they do not accept the ways of this country and should be deported as far as I'm concerned.

I have to disagree with you on the translation part, if it is done by a professional then you will have an almost perfect translation.
The use of English only in law is already in implementation in regards to legal matters and at times translation must be used.
I do agree that anyone should be able to speak any language they please in any part of the world, not just in America.

Actually our American legal system uses a lot of French words. Thats why a lot of things are in two words. "Assault and Battery" "Cease and Desist" One is French and the other is English. Just a little trivia. "Oh and there is a whole lot of Latin too"

It's the de facto "official" language here, so we need to make it official. Our Constitution is in English.
