Sometimes I can hear the people talking but they can't hear me back, or pick up and there is no dial tone. The dial tone comes back after several minutes. Why is this, and how can I remedy this!
Thanks

This is generally a problem with your internet connection. All digital phone services require an ultra stable connection to be reliable. So many things factor into this. The most common is that the coax cable going to your house is old/leaky RF-wise/waterlogged and the signal is being interfered with just enough to slow your internet speed down. Still, your TV may work just fine and going on the internet to web pages which requires only short bursts of traffic will work fine too, but digital phone requires continuous high speed and is one of the most demanding things you can do with your connection and it constantly relies on that demand. Your signal to TW is weaker than their signal to you, plus your upload speed has a much lower cap as well, so when you combine the two with a poor cable in between, people will have trouble hearing your voice, either drop outs, robot slow down speed up talking or complete silence. Call Time Warner and the cable guy will check all your levels and probably end up replacing your line from the street. If problems still persist, they may replace your cable modem as well. For me, they had to do both, over 3 or 4 visits!

Another issue may be if you have too many jacks running off of 1 feed. Our former cable company had 2 splitters (total of 10 outlets) on our initial feed so they didn't have to run an additional one. The signal to our internet was so weak they were amazed we even had TV signals. Best bet is to have them come out and check.

Make sure all connections are tight and clean, if not replace them. that should help your problems. I had 1 bad connector and My service stunk- they replaced it and weve been trouble free ever since.
