Or do some dentists only have experience with porcelain crowns?

probably not...ask your dentist what kind of crowns he puts on...he should know how to do those...most people prefer porcelain crowns anyway

I would expect that fabricating and installing a gold crown would be part of the curriculum at most dental schools. Some dentists send out to have crowns fabricated; others make their own.

every dentist in america has had to use gold at some point. there's a bunch of us who probably haven't used it in 20 years but in order to get a degree you have to have done at least a few gold crowns.

it is pretty much same procedure. Gold crown is more conservative, less tooth is removed. Some dentists tough do not put them in just because they don't work with a lab that works with gold.

If they can install porcelain they can do gold and silver crowns too.

experience varies from dentist to dentist, we have a dentist in town who does not even do crowns he refers you to someone else that does.

they should be able to perform any crowning procedure....if they can't, they should hang it up.
