I have heard about this to save money, and I just saw a question where someone answered that they had theirs sponored.
How do you go about that? I would love to try it!

I was just inquiring.....
Weddings are expensive, and I have heard about it happening. I do not want any tacky reality tv, wal-mart branded, look-like-a-complete-jackass kind of wedding.
Some companies will sponsor your wedding, and pay for parts of it in exchange for advertisments in the local paper, your wedding photos on their website, commercials - which will be done tastefully and....photo shoots can be done either before or after your wedding day, so they do not interfere with your actual wedding. National sports teams even sponsor some couples who choose to get married at the stadium, not that I would ever do that, but it has been done.

I never said I wasn't paying for it myself.
I am. Infact, I will be doing alot myself....in order to personalize it more, and to cut costs. I am a very talented, creative and crafty individual....not a cheapskate looking for someone else to pay for my own wedding.
It was something that I heard of, that caught my interest, and I simply wanted to know how it worked.
Excuse me all to hell.......to some of you----definitely not all of you.

You need to approach different vendors. Some have this built into their advertising fund. What you do is advertise their product or service during your wedding.
In the wedding program it would say, "Flowers by Nature's Own".
Wedding dress provided by, "Frilly Bridal Dress Shoppe". And during the reception the band would announce, "And that song was brought to you by,"Good Eats Caterer, serving hungry guests statewide".
I am considering doing something similar. I need to have a couple weddings videoed, so I will perform a small ceremony for free. Think I'll get any takers?
What you could do to save costs is look for professionals starting out. A photographer looking to build a porfolio, or a planner looking for experience. They a lot of times will do their job far below cost for that privilege.

There IS such a thing as having your wedding sponsored. I read on here before that someone had (I think it was) AVON sponsor their wedding. I know a few years back Oprah did a big story on sponsored wedings, maybe you could contact the show through their website to get some information.
To help cut costs, you could see if some family members are willing to donate their services to help out with the wedding. (Maybe in lieu of a gift.) We, like you, paid for our wedding ourselves. We made a LOT of phone calls & finally got what we wanted for a reasonable price. It's hard work, but it was worth it in the end. Good luck with your wedding, and enjoy this time! Congratulations! :)

You find companies and call and bargain on how they would sponsor you and what you would get and what they would get. Unfortunately you are correct, most of them end up tacky, like walmart sponsored someone around here and they had to use all walmart products and have it in the parking lot and anyone shopping could join in. Kinda impersonal. You could start small and look for amateur photographers and see what kind of deal you could work up... but a whole sponsored wedding would be hard to pull off. You have to give people a reason- like why would they want to sponsor your wedding? What the benefit for them? If you can think of something- then heck market it. One woman in LA was renting space on her belly like a bill board for companies so she could get baby stuff for free. But after all the rave after this one woman- it was done and everyone else wanted to do it and it was kinda a one time deal.

You mean get someone else to PAY FOR IT??? Doesn't happen sweetie. Some people on here have gotten the bright idea that they can go to certain companies (wedding vendors, dress manufacturers, etc.) and in exchange for a mention in the wedding program, they will donate their merchandise free of charge. Only celebrities get this treatment, because the mention isn't just a wedding program that 150 people will see, it's a front page spread in People Magazine.

sorry to say, but these companies make you advertise for them at your wedding, not just outside the wedding. and if you seem to know soooo much about the advertising and you are payign for your own wedding then why are you asking this question? people are right..it looks cheesy when its done because if you cant pay for a wedding yourself you should be having one. this doesnt just go for you, but for everyone. plus...anyone with any dignity wouldnt go around asking places to sponser their wedding. if you need charity to have a wedding then go to the court house. sorry you cant handle the reality of your question.

There's a big difference between corporate/company sponsors and family members who sponsor your wedding. In some cultures, sponsors are close family and friends who donate time, services, and items for the wedding (i.e., paying for the cake, photography, church, etc.). If you need some assistance in paying for your wedding, you could approach your close family members to see if they can help chip in for some things. We personally, budgeted our wedding based on what we could afford. As we received unsolicited monetary contributions and items to help plan our wedding, we direct that towards the wedding we had planned.

Unless you are Angelina Jolie, forgedabout it.
You can try for those reality shows and hope for the best, but I wouldn't rely on luck to be able to have a wedding.
You can beg and get some tacky labeled napkins and plastic cups. Horrible.
Good luck

sponsored?
how, like by a company?
BAD idea. do you really want your wedding invitations, photos, and everything to say "brought to you by Wal-Mart" on them??? You're going to keep these things for years.
