Because hair is dead, how come it lightens with sun exposure?
Probably has to do with pigment, but if you know for sure, than please speak up!

I am a licensed Cosmetologist. The hair has what is called the cuticle and the cortex.
The cortex is where color cells are stored.
The cuticle is the outer layer of the hair. Under a microscope the cuticle looks like a series of scales or shingles on a roof.
When the sun warms this outer layer, the cuticle can "lift" and allow some of the color molecules to "escape". There is a much more detailed explaination, but, this is the gest.
This is why when you color your hair with artificial color, it fades more in the warmer weather than in the cooler or cold months.
And yes, hair is dead.
It is the follicle inside the scalp that is alive and feeds and grows on blood.
The hair strand itself is not alive once it leaves the scalp.
However, this does not mean that it is not effected by outside influences.
Heat styling, chemical services, water, wind, rain, pretty much everything can effect it's overall "health".
So if you are in the sun alot, then a good daily conditioner and a weekly "deep conditioning" are recommended to keep the hair soft and free of breakage.
That is pretty much it.

there's a shampoo by way of pantene proV noted as Blonde (or silver) Expressions, it has a easy coloring result that's healthy to apply and could slowly lighten your hair. My buddy used it to alter her sea coast blonde hair right into some colorings off platinum, so it quite does artwork, it merely relies upon how long you you utilize it. The longer, the lighter. good success!
