Most definitely I was moved by your question. I have been diagnosed with mixed bi-polar since 1987, and have always been seeing a doctor. I totally understand how you feel. Clearly, it's a lonely existence, especially when friends and family do not understand. There are no meds that I know of for agoraphobia. At a suggestion for one of my psychiatrist he said to fight it, and keep saying "I'm not afraid" or "There's nothing to fear," or "I'm an okay person." It worked, and now I have panic attacks. But, you know I deal with that, too. Despite this psychiatric journey, I obtained a degree at Pasadena City College, and USC in my early 40's. Also, there are great meds out there for depression, but it is trial and error to find the right one. Most of my family and friends were understanding, except the one friend who that I was possessed by the devil. I know that I am love. By the way, pushing people away is normal for depression. Just don't do anything to end it all. You are not alone and people love you more than you know. Pray for the psychiatrist's wisdom and a happy heart.

You need to be referred to a psychiatrist by your family doctor. The psychiatrist can assess you to decide which of the medications that are very effective for both disorders will be the best ones for you. Clinical depression is a biochemical imbalance. There is nothing you can "do" for depression tp change it other than seeing the doctor. Agoraphobia, on the other hand, can be helped by psychology strategies that a psychologist (not psychiatrist mentioned above) can help you through. it will be so worth it for you to get help. DO NOT BLAME YOURSELF! Both conditions are no fault of your own. You will be amazed at the difference you will feel once you are on an appropriate medication regimen that is right for you!

Yes... I did, for many years actually. and I still am a bit antisocial but that's mostly because I realized how completely worthless most human interaction is... Especially when most people have no clue who and what they are on their own outside the eyes and ears of others.

I self medicated with street drugs and alcohol for a decade just to be able to socialize but mostly because it was a thought and an ideal forced upon me from everyone else, that I wasn't healthy unless I wanted to interact with others. Which isin't true... AT ALL...

and then, one day, I got sick and tired of being scared, addicted and sick and tired... and after a myriad of different prescriptions (none of which worked any better than the street drugs and had worse side effects) and a number of different therapists.

I healed myself... By myself. By making choices and acting responsibly with myself and by becoming accountable for the consequences of my actions.

It is a choice we all have to make at the end of the day and no one can help you... but you.
Anyone who does seem to help, acts in place of your lack of faith in your own ability to do what you need to do to get better.
Anyone else is a surrogate healing, because you lack faith in your own ability to understand yourself from the perspective of others. People like Dr. Phil, live off this fact: Rather nicely too I might add...

There is nothing to fear. But fear itself. and fear is a tiny little monster with a big mouth that is all bark and no bite.

Just do it... one little step at a time!
