I am 17 years old & currently studying for my A levels, and i want to join the police force when i am older. But first i want to get a degree in law or another law related degree,

I have always wanted to join the police force, as i feel that it is an exciting/rewarding job. And yes, alongside all the paperwork :)

If it doesnt work out for me, then theres always a law degree (hopefully) to fall back on, which would enable me to become a lawyer or something.

I love these answers...Brian M and the other twits who think cops as "hired muscle" and "throwbacks" have no doubt had past police contact. Oh I'm sure they'll say they haven't but people who have this type of an attitude towards law enforcement are usually habitual liars anyway.
Not to mention these are the types that despite their sensless and moronic ramblings are the very first to call a cop for some slight to them, real or imagined. They are of the caliber that use the police as tools to accomplish getting what they want. I've seen plenty of them and each one is still the same no matter where I go.
But...they have a right to give their views. Gas station attendants and fryolater cooks are allowed their opinions too. Its a free country.

Gee, I want to be a Marine until I die, but if they ever discharge me, I might become a policewoman.

My neighbor down the street told me that many policemen and women were former Marines!

That is interesting!

I would like to be in the dog unit of the police (called K9?). I love animals.

Being a dog walker has been fun. I have been doing in my neighborhood since I was 11.

I love different types of dogs and their temperaments and working and playing with them.

If I were ever discharged from the Marines, and I became a policewoman, I would hope to work with a German Shepherd. After that I would like to work with a Saint Bernard. Akitas are great, but more agressive.

That is what I would do in the police, if I could, but only if I couldn't die a Marine.

I want to be a city cop so I can ticket those people that change lanes without signalling, very common in our city..

I also would like to deal with those criminals that rob convinience stores and kill the cashiers.. Murders at grocery stores have risen in our city..

I almost did, but decided to have a family instead. Too long hours and nigh shifts. Didn't want that time away from my son.

Law enforcement, like the military, is the most mindless profession anyone could ever embrace. Some other entity always owns your mind. You are not free to disobey orders and refuse to kill Iraqis if you are in the military, and you are not free to support protestors if you are in the police force -- regardless of whether or not you support the cause.
Instead, your role is always to represent the interests of the ruling elite. Right or wrong, you are forced to be their muscle.

Quasimodo,

I've had several friends that were cops and they have all been very nice and they have all meant well. Unfortuanately, none of them have ever been very political minded nor were they willing to question their career choice.

What I wrote is essentially a Marxist analysis of the police and the military. Instead of making foolish assumptions about my experiences with the police, perhaps you could debate what I wrote. How exactly is anything that I wrote incorrect?

Why don't you just ask who wants to be laughed at and hated for the rest of their life. Of course all the guys i know that became cops already had this happen to them in high school, so it shouldn't be to much different.
Are you going to give me the best answer?
