Its impossible to say, there could be various triggers. try keeping a notebook of when it happens and what the preceding events were. You may be able to make a connection that way.

You should be able to rinse your nose, sinuses and the top of your throat using a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too.

The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20.

You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis. (I put in a link for “what” and “how” – there’s also some good info on wiki)

The best way to try and find out would be to keep a list of the different things you have come into contact with for the past couple years compared to before. Then about a week at a time expose yourself to different things on the list one or two at a time you should be able to narrow the list down pretty quick if you stick with it and don't try too many at once. I hope you find out really soon.

Try to establish when it occurs, is it only at this time of year.

How long does it last. Does it occur after eating something. Does it last all day and night. How long before you get relief.

I would start trying to establish the cause yourself.

I get itchy tongue whenever I eat Brazil nuts Walnuts and hazel nuts, but not peanuts, cashews or pistachio.

Strange but true.
