I'm thinking about it becaue it sounds like a challenging MOS. I wouldn't mind being away from home for a while either. but someone told me that infantry is a waste for people with intelligence. is that true? and if so what's a good MOS for someone who is smart?

If you're smart & want a challenge, join the coast guard. At least you'll be sacrificing for a worthy cause.

The infantry is one of the toughest trainings you will ever encounter from what I understand. When you move up in the ranks, your underlings will have a lot more respect for you because you've been there, done that. Infantry training is basically a more intense basic combat training. Also, employers have a lot of respect for someone in the infantry because of its intensity and the commitment it takes. If you decide infantry is not for you, figure out what you would like to do in life and chances are there is an MOS that can help you train for that path or even get you a job in the civilian world. A recruiter can help you with that. If you like working on cars, there are several mechanic positions. If you wanna go into the medical field, be a medic. And the list goes on... I hope this helps and I'd love to hear what you decide.

It is challenging. It's not for everyone. The training is rigorous. I had high scores on all my tests, but joined the Infantry. I liked it for a while. I then changed my MOS to computer tech. Research it thoroughly before you do this. You will go to Iraq, and you will be getting shot at. Make sure you're ready for this.

Your need to decide what you want to do after the Army. Choose a MOS that will give you the experience that you want doing a job you like. Remember if you want to get some college in, you are not likely to get much of a opportunity as a 13B. What matters is that you pick a MOS that you enjoy and that gives you experience that will help you in the future.

Yes it is a waste unless u become an officer so you can actually have some control. Be smart done ask random people what u want as your MOS...look it up yourself. Alot of MOS's so take your time and think it out...plus what job can you get after infantry??? a cop and security that's about it...so think about it.

Infantry wouldn't help you much once you get out.

Supply is in high demand - (hubby is one) and they do get deployed...easy promotion till you hit E-5....due to the short numbers of that MOS.

He got bonuses for reenlisting twice....and they might offer an enlistment bonus.

Lots of job opportunities with that MOS in the civilian world.

If you wish to learn skills that you can use later on, you may wish to go into another branch of the Army. As to which branch--what are you interested in? Ask your recruiter what your options are.
