When JC redding and other fundamenatlists spread hatred and intolerance in the name of Christ, aren't they in direct opposition to the teachings of Christ? How can they memorize the Bible and yet miss the whole point? God is Love. Love Everybody

It's the Fundamentalist/Evangelical Conservatices who are destroying Christianity. The Liberals are more Christ like then the Fundamentalist/Evangelical, Conservative types.

I completely agree. It's one thing to speak against things that are wrong...it is quite different though to show the hatred and insults that some of the Christians here are doing. That Soldier of God guy (in the past)...JC Redding...some others, can't think of off the top of my head...likely are not Christians at all. Instead they are egoists who want to use Christianity as their means for blasting other people. And then they will rejoice because they are being persecuted (because obviously not following exactly what they believe is called persecution). There is merit in standing up for what is right, but the method in which it is done is just as important. Do so as Christ - with love.

Don't forget: God is just and righteous, too.

People often define God as being one thing or another, 'love' being one of the most popular.

So, many 'fundamentalists' cling to some definition of God that will contradict those who only think that 'God is Love' and love alone... some happy character sitting on clouds happily watching the earth spin and doing the occasional good deed for humanity, so long as they love eachother, too.

But I think that some 'fundamentalists' miss the point that they are fabulously flawed as much as everybody else, and what everybody really needs is redemption, forgiveness, and restoration to God's love.

It's hard enough being human with the challenges that face us everyday. It's even more difficult when individuals try to force a lifestyle of works, rather than faith, rather than on the simple fact that Christ only wanted himself to be lifted up. Not the rules. His life.

Showing who Christ is and trying to live by his standards are difficult. And many believers are constantly belittled and persecuted for their beliefs. I think that many believers react to this and try to fight back over-agressively.

Even the question itself is cause for some believers to be offended.

...Which is flawed... For in criticizing fundamentalists, I find that perhaps you too are NOT showing the love!

...BTW: I have no idea who JC Redding is... I just think it's a dangerous game to lump an entire group of believers by the actions of a few into a particular category.

Well, you might be right, but to be wise, we must carefully choose our battles.

What we resists, will persist, so it's probably better to bless and pray for folks who are on an erroneously path, rather than trying to change or discreidt them.

The things we fight with are the things we obsess about. the things we obsess about, is where we send our soul's energy. It's true that many Evangleicals are more about hate than love, but some are about both love and hate. At best, they send a very confusing message to the world.

You can do better; with your consciousness of the inherent contradcitions of their witness, you can focus on your own life, and making it a testimony of true love, as you mentioned. Focus on the Light, not on the darkness to fill your mind and life with Light.
