UTI = urinary tract infection. An excellent way to get one is have a catheter put in, especially in hospital these days.
Ensure that any and all antibiotics prescribed are being chosen from the culture results of mid-stream urine tests, as the longer this goes on for the more resistant the infection will get. Guessing which antibiotic to use at this stage is doomed to disaster.
The only other thing you can do is take lots of clear fluid, don't bother choosing cranberry juice, unless you particularly like it, as the most recent controlled studies show it to be little better than plain water.

All a UTI is bacteria that gets into your Urinary Tube. It is nothing to worry about! The most probable reason you contracted this infection is because your genital area was not cleansed, around the catherter, often enough. Even if it was so much bacteria is involved in having a child. Catherter or not most mothers do have UTI's after birth. By the way - Congratulations -

I have had a UTI from a catheter. I was on the wrong antibiotic. I had to try several different antibiotics before I was put on the correct one. Ask your doctor to do a urinalysis with a culture and sensitivity to see exactly what antibiotic your UTI is sensitive to, that way, they will know exactly what antibiotic you will need. Also, I usually need 2 rounds of the correct antibiotic back-to-back because I just don't respond well to antibiotics.
I hope this might help you. Good luck.

Catheters very often cause UTIs, even with the greatest of care putting them in and taking them out. From your symptoms, it does sound like you have a UTI - I suffer from them frequently (including twice after catheterisation) - blood in the urine is a sign it is more advanced.
If this set of antibiotics don't help, go back to your doctor asap because it sounds like you need to see a specialist. In the meantime drink as much water as you can, and cranberry juice may also help.

I had catheters both time with my children, and got an infection every time. See if you can get more powerful antibiotics, drink lots of cranberry juice and see your doctor or midwife quickly.
With a newborn this is the last thing you need.

your bladder is supposed to be sterile and when a catheter is inserted sometimes bacteria from your vagina gets into the bladder where it grows and causes pain and can lead to kidney nfection, go to the drug store and get cranberry pills and cystex, the cranberry pills raise the acidity of the urine and the bacteria can't grow as easily in your urine and the cystex helps with the pain
