First off, not all Christians are rude. I think it is because they are around others who are letting them do it. I have been around some who are rude and after kindly and explaining from the scriptures why they are acting inappropriately, I also take the time to let them know that, should I see them continuing to exhibit this attitude/behavior, my social contact with them will be lessened or discontinued. This may not stop others from being rude, but it will keep me from being around them, possibly taking on that behavior. I also believe that those in responsible positions in any religion ought to take action against those members who are being rude and offending others. It is not enough to teach that rudeness is wrong, but there also must be consequences when people are being so.

Your question brings up something that has bothered me for a long time. I have been treated more rudely in churches than anywhere else on earth. I think many "religious" people believe that they are "better" than others because they have been "saved". However, I did not want to let their rudeness influence me and turn me away from Christianity just because some people don't understand how to treat others. I am happy to say that, about 10 years ago, I found a church full of members who were more interested in making me feel at home and making themselves better people, than they were in acting snobbish. I am now a member of the Eastern Orthodox Church, where the emphasis is on worshiping the Father Son and Holy Spirit, and learning about the life of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another as I have loved you." This feeling is alive and well in the Orthodox Church. As for being "saved", we Orthodox believe that this is a process. We have been saved, we are saved, we are being saved and we will be saved. We must continue to live as we know we should, and we must continue to treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves.

There are some church people like that, but not all of them are arrogant and snobby. Come to my church sometime, everyone there is sooo nice! It's really small and we're all one big family. The pastor and associate pastor are really good. Worship is wonderful, music is phenomenal. Email me for more info.

Would you kindly refrain from referring to Christians as "church people"? It would be greatly appreciated. Also, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, would you mind being a little more polite in your discription of us? Thank you ever so much for your cooperation.
I hope you feel I've made these requests very politely, thus dispelling your belief that we are "arrogant", and impolite. Do have a wonderfully blessed day, and keep Jesus first in all you do and say.

Not all of us. You shouldn't lump all of us together. There are arrogant, snobby, rude people from all walks of life--have you read many questions/answers on R&S, for example? I know people like that from my own church too. But I'd hate to be judged for their actions. I try to treat people kindly; sometimes it's reciprocated and sometimes it isn't. And it's much more hurtful when that kind of behavior comes from people who should know better. :)

I am not sure where you get that from. I just moved to NC and I have been going to different churches trying to find one I like. I have been to about 10 different ones so far and everyone I went to the people were very nice. Sorry that you had this experience.

Not all church people act like that. I usually find people to behave better in church then outside. My pastor always says that it doesnt matter how you act in church, its when your home alone that tells you if your a true christian or not.

Maybe the church people you have come across are having a bad day or assume u don't like them right off the bad so they pretend to be grumpy when really they aren't.

I don't think Christianity has anything to do with it. I think it is the way people have been brought up. You have people every where who are just ignorant as to how to treat people. Ma they don't mean to be rude they just haven't been taught to be polite! Just pray for them.
