the Jehovahs Witnesses before following their religion?

2007-03-14 05:13:52 · 7 answers · asked by Tanya Pants 3 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

If the JWs say they can glorify God even though they have an evil past, then holidays are good if they glorify God today, even if they didn't 3000 years ago.

Too bad witnesses can't be politicians, they are experts at avoiding questions and going on a tangent about something else.

My point was that even if something didn't start out great, it can still change to be something that does glorify God.

Whenever I have asked JWs if they think it right to look at the history of their Organisation before anyone joins them, they have said, yes, however, the very minute that I start to ask what are obviously very embarrassing questions to them about their Organisations past pagan practises they make their excuses and off they go as quickly as possible. No wonder they are told by their Organisation that history is irrelevant. How could they ever claim, as they do, that they are in contact with God and that he gives guidance to them alone, as they are Gods one and only Organisation on Earth, yet make so many mistakes is breathtakingly unbelievable.

We must all examine history. A holiday is in no way a person. The Bible shows that many Christians have made mistakes in their beliefs. I always love how rude you can be. To say we have an "evil" past is just funny. Consider the apostles who were in the presence of Jesus, made mistakes while trying to understand him. Does this make them "evil"???

We have researched the history of our Organization.

The only one I've found to be perfect is Jesus.

From Abel to today, all worshipers of Jehovah have been imperfect.

David committed murder and adultery.

Paul and Baranbas got into a heated arguement.

Peter denied Jesus three time.

The apostles thought Jesus was restoring Israel at his death.

This did not make these people evil, just imperfect.

It is Paul how said "Quit touching the unclean thing"
Not Jehovah's Witnesses.

What evil past?

Holidays are good if they glorify God today?

How are you glorifying god during Christmas?
What gifts are you giving Jesus on Christmas on a day that his not even his birthday?

Yeah.

You examine the history of everything you intend to put your belief or faith in.
That's like getting an inspection on a home you are planning on buying. It only makes sense.

I know what you're alluding to though. But doesn't it make sense to do away with pagan holidays once you realize they are pagan, than to keep following them just because others are following them???

Sometimes it is interesting to listen to human reasoning.

However, a Christian will always prefer to look to the bible and learn from God's reasoning as the bible's Divine Author.

For example, rather than advocating pagan holidays, it might seem dramatically more reasonable to advocate Jewish holidays which certainly did have God's approval for centuries. Now then... what does the bible teach about the propriety of insisting that Christians should continue to celebrate (formerly appropriate) Jewish holidays?

(Colossians 2:13-23) [God] made you alive together with him. He kindly forgave us all our trespasses 14 and blotted out the handwritten document against us [the Jewish Law and holidays], which consisted of decrees and which was in opposition to us [that is, proved our imperfections]; and He has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the torture stake. ...16 Therefore let no man judge you in [insisting on Kosher] eating and drinking or in respect of [insisting upon observing] a festival or of an observance of the new moon or of a sabbath; 17 for those [formerly appropriate Jewish] things are a shadow of the things to come, but the reality belongs to the Christ. 18 Let no man deprive you of the prize who takes delight in a mock humility and a form of worship of the angels, “taking his stand on” the things he has seen, puffed up without proper cause by his fleshly frame of mind, 19 whereas he is not holding fast to the head, to the one from whom all the body, being supplied and harmoniously joined together by means of its joints and ligaments, goes on growing with the growth that God gives. 20 If you died together with Christ toward the elementary things of the world, why do you, as if living in the world, further subject yourselves to the [formerly appropriate Jewish] decrees: 21 “Do not handle, nor taste, nor touch,” 22 respecting things that are all destined to destruction by being used up, in accordance with the commands and teachings of men? 23 Those very things are, indeed, possessed of an appearance of wisdom in a self-imposed form of worship and mock humility, a severe treatment of the body; but they are of no value [now that Jesus has established true worship]

As the bible plainly teaches, insisting upon any holiday celebration (including even the formerly appropriate Jewish festivals and holidays) would be grossly incompatible with true Christianity. Of course, those early Christians did not work to interfere with those outside "the truth" who chose to continue worshipping their pagan gods, or who made no pretense of respecting and obeying the teachings of Christ and the apostles. Similarly, Jehovah's Witnesses do not interfere with the pagan, god-dishonoring celebrations of non-Witnesses.

It would be good to examine their history.
You'll find they have made mistakes.
One difference:
When they realized it was a mistake, they corrected it.
Pagan holiday origins have never been corrected.
