The Controlled Substances Act, based upon our own laws and international treaties, lists certain drugs in categories known as "Schedules" based upon their medical use, potential for abuse, and potential for addiction.

Those listed under this act are referred to by medical and law enforcement as "controlled substances." Examples being marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, LSD, MDMA, codeine, and many other medications and drugs.

When larceny, or theft, of a controlled substance occurrs, it normally involves that of a prescribed medication. In the "field" many thefts occur in doctor's offices by taking prescription pads and forging them.

Other types of larcenies or thefts occur by taking the actual medication illegally.

As a minimum, the theft or larceny of a controlled substance is normally a felony offense.

The person who referred to Tylenol 3....that is one example of a controlled substance as Tylenol 3 contains codeine.

Hope this helps...best wishes.
