There is a product called "Vermont's Bag Balm". It really helps with just about anything you can possibly imagine, and can also be used by humans too. I use it on my dogs for scratches, rashes, paw pads, etc... It comes in a small, square green tin container, with red clovers, and a bull on top of the lid. You can find it in any pet store, drug store, or walmart. It isn't expensive. It looks like Vaseline, but has medicinal properties in it. It works great on my dogs, and is non-toxic, if they lick it off. I would give it a try, it can't hurt. Hope this helps!

A dog's pads are supposed to be rough - if they were too soft the dog would always have sore feet. However, if they get to the point that they're cracking (1 of my dogs gets this problem every winter), the vet recommended Vaseline. Just take care not to use it for too long because you don't want his pads soft.

They need to be rough, dogs don't wear shoes so the roughness of the pads on their paws acts as soles and keep them from getting cuts and splinters they might otherwise get.

The internet is overflowing with dog paw balms to try. I've used one once (forgot name) it smelled lemony and was a waxy substance in a tin. They also make products to toughen dogs paws for racing, make sure you don't confuse the two.

Poor dog!!
It sucks, my puppy is 5 months old anf her paws are also getting rough, but they need it... as they get old and explore the outside they'll get rough.. but it's like their shoes... Ask you vet what you can do... If you puppy doesn't complain, let it be.. it's the dog's nature.

Tou may think they are rough but sofening them would not be good for the puppy, she will get cut up easily, sofening them is like you walking around without any shoes on, everywhere you go

You don't need to soften them. Your pup needs tough pads to walk on dirt, rocks, stickers etc. They are meant to be tough.
