When are the dealers trying to get rid of the older models?

Personally, I think the best month is when you need different wheels.

Usually, you can get a good deal on the current year when the new models come out. That would be the fall for most manufacturers.

The main thing is do your homework. Pick a car you like, read about it on the internet for reliability, repair costs, warranty coverage, mileage, etc.

Once you have picked a model, check out the prices. Look around and see what they are selling for. Once you know what invoice is, you have a good idea on how much they are marked up. From this, you should have a firm idea on how much you are willing to pay.

Now is the time to see the dealer. Tell him what you want, options, etc. He will tell you a price. Tell him what you will pay and STICK WITH THAT FIGURE!

I just bought a new Cobalt. We were $500 apart. I would not budge from my price. Finally, I told the salesman I was going to another dealer. I got in my car, and almost made it out of the parking lot when the salesman came RUNNING after me. Guess what? I got the car for my price.

So, be prepared to walk out. There are other dealerships that want your business. Use these tips and you can save a bunch!

It depends on what kind of model you want. If you want a Civic, there are going to be quite a few '07's left over in December of 2007. If you want a Subaru Impreza WRX STi, it is going to be slightly harder to find an "older model" of a car which is so highly sought after

August and September. But don't forget you are getting a late model. Because of the same reason you don't want to delay any later than this months.
