Brent ~

Great match up here. In my opinion, Alexis would be way too much for the wild swinging off balance Pacquiao. This fight would resemble Manny's fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, minus the knock downs.

Alexis was such a complete fighter that Manny's awkward lunges with power shots would have little or no effect on Alexis. Alexis was just too good for Pacquiao. Alexis held his hands high and would have trained with the proper sparring partners to get him acquainted with the southpaw stance unlike Marquez trainer/manager Nacho Bernstein who refused to spend the money for a top quality southpaw. Alexis wouldn't need three knock downs in the first round to straighten him out to know to avoid Manny's hard left hand.

Manny throws all of his weight behind each and every punch when he's in an exchange, when he does this he brings is back foot forward causing him to "square up" it wouldn't take long for Alexis to time Manny's rushes and catch him with lead right hands and left hooks to the body, the most effective weapons against any southpaw. Manny does not like the sight of his own blood, he has admitted this in many interviews "That seeing my blood threw me off, I didn't like it" and Alexis's sharp straight punches would indeed cut Manny's sharp facial features.

Alexis would hurt Manny upstairs and downstairs. Alexis was one of the most accurate punchers in boxing's history and no punches would be wasted. Alexis would stop a very game but a very outmatched Pacquiao in less than 10 rounds.

Thanks for the querstion Brent.

Pacquiao is a heavy hitter, but his wide open swarming style is well suited to a good counter puncher, and none were better than Arquello at that weight. I think if Erik Morales could exploit Pacquiao to the extent he did, Arquello would have done as much and more. Arquello brought would bring more power and better all around boxing skills to the fight than Erik did, and Pacquiao would need to KO Alexis, he wouldn't have the skill level to out box the Nicaraguan.

An early to mid round KO is certainly possible with Pacquiao matched up against anyone. Alexis Arguello isn't just anyone.

Arguello by decision.

Manny Pacquiao may win. Not only is his hand speed tremenduosly fast and accurate, he has also already developed knock-out power with BOTH hands. But the best about the Pacman is his endurance and superb conditioning to fight like hell for twelve rounds continuously... The Pacman is definitely no glass jaw either. Unless, Arguello can punch faster and harder than Pacquiao, and unless he can take all the punches the Pacman can throw at him from all angles, then Pacquiao would knock him out, perhaps in the later rounds.

Good question as usual Brent! I have a lot of respect for Pacquiao and he comes to fight everytime out. He is a very aggressive fighter with good endurance and a fierce will to win. Arguello is an all time great in my opinion both a good boxer with outstanding power in either hand. I believe that Arguello would use his reach and boxing ability to keep Pacquiao off of him and blast him with hard shots as he came in. Arguello was a very patient fighter that would look for openings to throw his devastationg right hand and he would do this in this fight much the way he did against Mancini. Pacquiao is tough and would get inside of Arguello and land some good punches particularly to the body which is a very good strategy against "The Explosive Thin Man." I believe in about round 10 that Arguello would catch Pac Man with one of his patented right hand bombs and send him to the canvas. Pac Man would gamely get to his feet but the referee would wisely stop the fight.

This would be a great fight. Arguello's quality of oppsoition is somehow equal to Pacquaio. He took on opponents with great records. In this fight, Manny will have the edge in speed and chin. Arguello will have the edge in stamina and defense. They will be more or less equal in power.
I see Pacquiao taking an early lead. Arguello fought in the lighter weight limits for most of his career. He was most effective in the divisions below super featherweight. He will not be as potent in this division. I think that Manny may knock down Arguello in the middle rounds. Manny and Arguello will split the middle rounds. By the later rounds, I see Arguello succumbing to the Pacman's awesome power. Ultimately, I see Manny winning by a 12th-round technical knockout.

Arguello usually had a power advantage over most of the fighters he fought add with that this guy could box with the best of them. Pacquiao would not be one of the boxers Arguello has a power advantage over. Arguello would use his boxing ability and 9 inch reach advantage to win a decision over Pacquiao in a good close fight because Pacquiao will get in his shots.

Arguello easily! The Pac Man is a good fighter but too one dimensional for a skilled fighter like Arguello. Arguello would take him out in 8.

If Pacquiao was instructed to go for the Kayo in the first round, he would eventually knockout Arguello within 3-4rounds if not Arguello would be stopped in the first round. Arguello had good boxing skills but lacked the head movement to avoid the blinding left hand that Manny has used to floor and stop many even my fav fighter E.Morales.

I can't believe some peole still insist that the pacman is a one dimensional fighter. get your eyes fix guys either you suffer double vision or your going blind. better yet watch the Pacquiao-Larios match where from the 4th round up to the 12th round the pacman displayed technical skills that you never seen him before. Its like a 12 rounds sparring session. And to think manny did not take larios seriously and tried not to really hurt him because manny's countrymen liked larios because he was a cool guy.
Against arguello i admit that it will be a hard and long fight but nobody beats manny when it cames to stamina and endurance, imagine he lasted 12 rounds against morales bleeding from the 4th till the end of the fight and still standing coming forward exchanging punches with the great mexican warrior. I predict manny winning via a late KO. Manny is speed and power combined plus 15 rounds worth of stamina and rock like endurance.

This would be a terrific fight! Pacquiao is a strong, quick, southpaw with good power but Alexis was a better technician and a good puncher himself. Pacquiao would be the aggressor and try to hurt Alexis with his big straight left, but Alexis would just take his time and pick his shots against an onrushing Manny, and counter him with the most effective punch against a southpaw, a straight right hand right down the pipe, and Alexis' straight right was as good as anyone in boxing and he could also bring the uppercut underneath it as well. I see a fierce battle here with both men landing good shots, but Alexis' superior skills would start to take over in the middle rounds as he catches Manny coming in with a lot of straight right hands muck like Erik Morrales did in their first fight. Alexis would hurt Manny in the 9th round and finish him in round 10 of a great fight!
