I'm a 23 year old Insulin Dependant diabetic, and I find it really hard to lose weight. If I exercise my blood sugar levels drop which means I have to eat more, and the only way to combat this is to eat before exercise which means I'm taking on extra calories to burn! I also can't switch to a lower carb diet because I have to eat slow release carbs to get energy. I don't want to lose a lot, just a few pounds ready for summer, but I'm finiding it hard to shift them!

The best thing you could do for your body is to abide by a whole foods, plant based diet. Eliminate all forms of refined foods, and, yes, insulin diabetics can enjoy great health benefits from a vegetarian diet. Did you know there is more protein in a cup of broccoli than a slab of chicken?
Try steaming a sweet potato for lunch, along with a salad. Try a handful of almonds for a snack, try reading my favorite health book, "The China Study" and see if you can possibly even lower your insulin level with this plan!
I have seen it work!
Good luck!
Here's to your health!

Honey, I feel for you. It's hard doing ANYTHING with diabetes (yep, I have it too) and I'm so glad to see you take this seriously. I would recommend that you read "SugarBusters" if you haven't already. You can drink some low-fat milk before you exercise; save it from your morning meal. Use your snacks before exercise. Actually, it's been found that exercising moderately 3 times a week is just as effective as doing it every day. Call your doc before doing anything drastic, but I would say, plan your day for exercise and maybe skip the next day and stay with your low glycemic foods. Thanks for asking an intelligent and helpful question! Godloveya.
