There is nothing wrong with remarrying if one's spouse has passed away. The marital vows say, "Until death do us part." As John the Baptist exclaimed to King Herod Antipas, "You may marru the wife of your brother when your brother is dead but not while he lives!"

The Church teaches there is absolutely nothing wrong with a widowed person remarrying. In fact, death is the only thing that can end a valid marriage....as in " til death do us part." Jesus even pointed out that there is no such thing as marriage in Heaven when the pharissees tried to trick Him about the woman who married 7 brothers and was widowed by all of them.

Catholic marriage ends at the death of one of the spouses, hence the phrase, "until death do we part."
It is fully acceptable (but not required) for a Catholic widow or widower to remarry.
Although we do not know for sure, many Bible scholars believe that Joseph was married and widowed before he became engaged to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Children from this marriage would answer many questions about the "brothers of Jesus" in the Bible.
With love in Christ.

Jesus himself said in Matthew that if a divorced man or women remarry they commit adultery. The reason being that man and woman joined together are meant to stay that way, and if they choose to divorce they stay in a divorced state. Only death breaks the marriage bond. Not a very popular or acceptable concept today.

I don't know about the church, but the vows go, TILL death, right? If someone is a widow or widower, they have fulfilled their vow that they made in marriage, unless, of course, they caused the death...

Technically you only marry once. The church would rather that you remarry rather than sin with sexual relations outside of marriage.

The vows in marriage are "until death do us part." Upon the death of one's spouse one is released from the vow.
