You could tell her that you love her so much, and are worried about her health. Whether diabetis, heart disease, joint problems, breathing, etc, being overweight puts her at risk for many illnesses. If she ever needs surgery, being overweight could make the difference between life and death.
Subtle ways to get her to lose weight would be to try to help with the grocery shopping (get vegetables and fruit instead of processed and fried foods), avoid fast food restaurants, and ask her to go for walks with you. If you have a dog to walk, that would be great - but reward her by making the walks fun. Use them as time to talk about special stuff, to keep her motivated to walk with you. Try to get her to dance with you (great exercise). Tell her you want to learn to cook, and then cook healthy foods -- no cheese, limit butter, etc. Talk to her about what you learn in school about portion sizes and calories. She knows she's overweight and won't need to be told, but you can tell her that you're going to help keep her healthy so she'll be there for you when you get graduate, get married, give her grandkids, etc. Good luck! I'm going to do try some of this stuff for myself (overweight Mom).

Hey, you don't tell your Mom "you need to stop eating". How about going to the library and picking up the book "Sugarbusters" and give it to your mom to read because "MOM, I'M CONCERNED FOR YOUR HEALTH"...and then commit to doing the diet with her, even if you don't need to lose weight (it's healthy either way). Go for a walk with her every day. You can be a huge motivator if you tell her with love and tell her you want her around for a long long time. You're a great kid! Thanks for writing this question to help others, too. Godloveya.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!

I would just about bet she already know's and does'nt need your two cent's to make her feel even more fat. The best thing you can do is try and keep her mind off of food and more on other things.

She does NOT need to stop eating!
She needs to eat well, and move around some.
You could be supportive, and offer to walk around the block every evening with her. You could offer to make dinner, and make a really healthy one.
