Of course, we must do good deeds for each other, so when we stand before God, we will have good deeds to show him that we did. That is what life is all about, its a test to see which of mankind is best in deeds.

Christians & Jews follow the precept of being "good to each other" - The Golden Rule i.e. do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Leviticus 19.18 Matthew 7.12. Muslims follow the precept of being good to believers (other Muslims).
Qur'an Surah Al-Anfãl (8):39
So fight them (unbelievers) until there is no more fitnah (disbelief or worship of any god but Allah) and all submit to the religion of Allah alone (in the whole world)" ... "And fight with them until there is no more fitnah (persecution) and religion should be only for Allah
Transliteration:
[008:039] Waqatiloohum hatta la takoona fitnatun wayakoona alddeenu kulluhu lillahi fa-ini intahaw fa-inna Allaha bima yaAAmaloona baseerun

Other religions have similar views about being "good to each other"
Try your best to treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself, and you will find that this is the shortest way to benevolence.
Confucianism. Mencius VII.A.4
One should not behave towards others in a way which is disagreeable to oneself. This is the essence of morality. All other activities are due to selfish desire.
Hinduism. Mahabharata, Anusasana Parva 113.8
Tsekung asked, "Is there one word that can serve as a principle of conduct for life?" Confucius replied, "It is the word shu--reciprocity: Do not do to others what you do not want them to do to you."
Confucianism. Analects 15.23
Jains extend the treatment to ALL CREATURES = ahimsa
A man should wander about treating all creatures as he himself would be treated.
Jainism. Sutrakritanga 1.11.33

Religion in and of itself is nothing more than a game played by man to make himself equal to that of God. Making rules he can't keep himself, they using them to exclude those he doesn't want and only including those he wants.
Religion and faith are not always the same thing. True faith is shown in the actions, not just the words.
Question is good by who's standards?
Are you a good person? What a question, most of us believe that we are good people because we can look around and find someone that is far worse than we are. We can always point to the things that we think make us a good person.
But how good are we really? Dare we take this test and look at ourselves and see if we really are good? Hmmm.
If you are willing try this and see just how good a person you are.
The Good Person Test.
How will you do? Pass or fail?
Have you ever told a lie?
Doesn't matter how big or small, just a lie.
What does that make you? Before answering think about this, if I told you a lie what would you call me? A liar?
Have you ever stolen anything? Cost doesn't matter, a piece of gum, failed to give back an ink pen that you borrowed, anything.
What does that make you?
Jesus said, "You know the saying of old, you shall not commit adultery but I say that if look at someone to lust after them you have committed adultery in your heart.
Have you ever lusted?
Jesus said that hate is equal to murder.
Have you ever hated anyone?
See one day we all are going to stand before a Holy God on Judgment Day and he is going to judge us based on His Holy Law, the Ten Commandments. These are just 4 of them and how did you do? Guilty? I have broken all of these and more, what about you? How well will you do on Judgment Day?
If we break just one point of God's Law we are guilty of breaking all the law and Gods Wrath abides upon us all. Based on God's Law we are all guilty and all are deserving of punishment. But there is an out for us.
Jesus paid the price for each one of us, took on himself God's Wrath so we wouldn't have to face it on our own. Jesus was beaten, battered, bleed and died so we wouldn't have to face God's Wrath. He rose again so that we would life in his presence. Our crimes, His payment.
The real question is where will you stand on Judgment Day. Pay yourself or have it paid for you. Think about it.

NO !
That is an Atheistic myth!
Christianity is about having a relationship with God. Living life according to God's scripture and loving one another. Good works and being kind to people is the result of being a Christian not the cause. You can't do enough good works to become a Christian, it is by God's grace we are Christians and it is a gift from God and not of works.
Being good to each other is a fine idea and I hope you practice it.

you do realize of course that your question is quite judgemental and your are stereotyping as well?
only put into this world what you want to get out of it.
that said, there is good, okay, and really bad in every person and every group. their religious label or lack thereof makes no difference.
my father in law told me once that locking your doors only helps to keep honest people honest. it does nothing to prevent dishonest people from doing that which is in their nature.
i think religion is exactly the same. of course i do not like that there are those who claim to be jewish and continue to hurt others, but it's not my job to be the label police! it is enough that i am responsible for myself and my chidren. i have no issues with the values that we have taught them to believe are jewish values just because some people don't get it. that's silly. it's like saying nobody should use microwaves because some people are dumb enough to put tinfoil in them.

What separates us from the muslims is we don't believe we can ever be good enough to be acceptable in the sight of a holy God. Yes it is an important thing that the bible and torah command, but it's not enough.
