If the 72 virgins thing is not true according to the Muslim faith, where does it come from? This is an honest question, not meaning to poke fun or anything like that.

72 virgins = 72 houris

In Islam, the ḥūr or ḥūrīyah (Arabic: حورية‎‎) are described as "pure beings" or "companions pure" of paradise. The hur may have a connotation of gender like the word "angel" in English but in general sense the hur can be male or female as does the word "angel" in English. The Arabic word "Hur", which occurs four times in the Qur’an, is plural of "Ahwar" for the masculine gender and "Huwra" (or houri) for the feminine. Thus, the huriyah may be male or female, either of which describes a person distinguished by "hawar", meaning "purity".

It's not untrue; but it's not well understood.

I shall not quote the whole passage from the Qua'ran, because it's very long and convolvuted.

The gist of it all is that Mohammad was preaching to his motley Army which he'd gathered at Medina and he needed to give them motivation to fight to the death; so, he had a "Revelation"!?

In that "Revelation" were described the rewards to the sha'hid or hero who falls in the Holy Battle.

He would go to a Heaven , specially reserved for those like him where he would have 72 houris or chaste female angels to serve him and he would have Celestial wine, meats and fruits served to him where he reclined!

The unedited Qua'ran contained passages that were graphic of the pleasure he could enjoy with even young boys for the gays!

However, the more prudish Muslims altered this to mean chaste angels and make it look more decent.

Most Muslims will deny that the Qua'ran has been edited; but, it is a fact that it, too, has been edited, many a time and there are many versions of the Qua'ran. Like I can see that people have already said it's a weak Hadith and that sha'hih version is the right one and so on, already.

If you were to ask a Muslim to explain how there is the Shia version, the Ahmediyya version and so on and so forth, he'll just dismiss all the others as false.

Most of them will vehemently deny the Medina verses and claim more Puritanical version to them.

I, personally, don't see anything wrong with them, in the context of a General who was rallying his troops. All Generals need to fib a bit and Mohammad was no exception.

Of course, I don't mean to mock the Muslims, but the Truth needs to be told.

Pax vobiscum, pax dominic.

Adia is correct. But many Orientalists have jumped upon it and made it into something more than it actually is. For example a Harem means sanctuary or a place where no men are allowed, and Orientalists have misconstrues it to mean where a man can go to seek pleasure from his man wives etc.

It came from a book by Al-Timidhi, not really a reliable hadith, a very weak one. Plus it was a sucky entrepretation. Usually muslims would rely on Bukhari, it's considered more genuine.

there are somany madeup stories to show muslims uneducated, found of sex, eating and fight......these are stupid stories to make islam down. there is only one resource to understand the islam. QURAN and you should read very carefully and try to understand. you should not read any comment of anyone at all.

are you really want to learn or are you trying to find a way to insult islam ? you can make fun on people but religion is something to be respected because it lives in peoples heart and why to break hearts. in islam muslims are not allowed to insult other peoples religion. it is forbidden to us.

There is what's called the science of hadith. hadiths are arranged in levels according to authority .. only "sahih" hadiths are accepted by muslims.
