While the Corolla and the MR2 share the Toyota name the differences are substantial between the two cars. The Corolla is a front wheel drive sedan while the MR2 is a rear wheel drive sports coupe. The modifications to make this swap work would be substantial and very expensive. A better swap would be a Corolla GTS motor which is similar to the MR2 yet made for the front wheel drive configuration.

the MR2 was a mid-engine, rear wheel drive vehicle. Your Corolla is front engine and front wheel drive. The swap would be astronomically expensive and difficult would not begin to describe how much work and custom fabrication would be involved. You could probably buy an MR2 for the same price as the swap. You'd be better off putting the engine from say the Celica GT-S into your car.

Don't listen to those guys they don't know what they are talking about. It will be no problem to install a 5fse or a 3sgte (turbo) Yes, the MR2 is mid-engine rear wheel drive but the transmission is a transaxle just the same as a front wheel drive. You will have to fab motor mounts and replace (Trans, Computer, Wiring Harness, Etc.)
