I'm on the 5th day of what was a pretty bad fever. I'm now down to 100. Should I take tylenol, which gets my fever down and i'll be able to get more homework done. Or let my low fever do what its supposed to do ; fight off the virus?

Every thing I have ever been told, or read has said that a temp below 102 is therapeutic. My 17 month old daughter had a 104 fever for 3 days. I repeatedly called her pediatrician and they said to check temp every 4 hours and if her temp was over 102 to rotate between Tylenol and ibuprofen every 4 hours. If you always treat a low grade fever with fever reducers your immune system can't properly do its job. Keep in mind that it is okay to take Tylenol 4 hours after taking Ibuprofen.

I'm a nurse and you should use Tylenol and Ibuprofen. See when you first take the Tylenol, then when it's time to take more medicine use the Ibuprofen. Your body is cooking your internal organs and that's a very bad thing. See a doctor if you are feeling worse. If this is in fact a virus then it has to wear off. I hope this information is useful to you. Take care and I hope you get well real soon.

Good question. I would go with the no Tylenol option, if you can, and let the fever run its course. However, a fever that long might indicate an infection somewhere. Have you seen your doctor? How do you feel otherwise?
