It is o.k. to wash your hair after 1 day. Unless they are trying to cover up a mistake they made. If the color was permanent there is no reason to wait 4 days. that is b.s. The color does not settle after any amount of waiting once it is in your hair it is there. If the color was demi permanent then wait 2 days.

If it is a vibrant color (any reds, purples, or darker hues to it) this may be the case. Although I think you would be fine to wash it the next day. Just wash with cool water to minimize the loss of color. It will wash out some anyway. Make sure you have some good shampoo and conditioners formulated for colored hair. Just do not use hot water, this will help strip the colors. They were just being overly cautious.

I've never been told that, but I have noticed when I dye my hair I will normally wash my hair the next day just because of that paint smell and the water is all colored as if I had never rinsed out enough paint the first time I rinsed it. Maybe that's why so that the color settles?!

normally its only 48 hours that you have to wait not 4 days, but just to be safe id wait the 4 days. The reason you have to wait to wash it is so you dont wash the color out, the sooner you wash it the quicker it fades. good luck!

It might fade the color if you wash it right away. I've never died my hair but my mom waits 3 days.

That sounds suspicious. Use a shamppo that holds the color e.g., KMS. There are others. Go to a Beauty Supply store and ask which other shamppos and conditioner are made for color treated hair.

You should be ok to just rinse it the next day and use a little bit of conditioner if you need it. I never heard of a 4-day rule. Are you sure she didn't mean 48 hours? Even then, I don't find that necessary.

thats weird, ive had my hair dyed many times and ive never been told that. but it could just be a different type of dye that they used on me. but make sure you still wait, you dont want it turning a different color or something! just keep your hair clean by not scratching your head and touching your hair, that makes it more smelly!
